Prevalence, clinical determinants and prognostic implications of coronary procedural complications of percutaneous coronary intervention in non-ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction: Insights from the contemporary multinational TAO trial.
CONCLUSIONS: In a contemporary NSTE ACS population, procedural complications with PCI remain frequent, are difficult to predict based on clinical characteristics, and are associated with worse ischaemic and haemorrhagic outcomes. Efficacy and Safety of Abbreviated Eptifibatide Treatment in Patients with ST-Segment Elevation Myocardial Infarction Undergoing Primary Percutaneous Coronary Intervention
In patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI), antithrombotic therapy with aspirin, a P2Y12 inhibitor, and heparin is essential to reduce coronary thrombus burden, and to facilitate primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI).1,2 In case of periinterventional thrombotic complications, additional use of a glycoprotein IIb/IIIa inhibitor (GPI) is a reasonable bailout treatment.1,2 Eptifibatide is a potent GPI3 that rapidly inhibits platelet aggregation when administered as bolus followed by infusion for 18-24 hours,4 which reduced ischemic endpoints and death in patients undergoing PCI in clinical ...

Eptifibatide use following emergent carotid stenting in acute anterior circulation ischemic stroke with tandem occlusion
Early revascularization of the extracranial internal carotid artery in acute anterior circulation ischemic stroke (ACIS) is feasible and may improve clinical outcome. When a stent is deployed, antithrombotic agents should be administered peri-procedurally to ensure stent patency. Our institution implemented a protocol for the use of eptifibatide as a means of maintaining stent patency in the treatment of ACIS associated with cervical internal carotid artery occlusion. Identification of SARS-CoV-2 Cell Entry Inhibitors by Drug Repurposing Using in silico Structure-Based Virtual Screening Approach
The rapidly spreading, highly contagious and pathogenic SARS-coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) associated Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) has been declared as a pandemic by the World Health Organization (WHO). The novel 2019 SARS-CoV-2 enters the host cell by binding of the viral surface spike glycoprotein (S-protein) to cellular angiotensin converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) receptor. The virus specific molecular interaction with the host cell represents a promising therapeutic target for identifying SARS-CoV-2 antiviral drugs. The repurposing of drugs can provide a rapid and potential cure toward exponentially expanding COVID-19. T...

Novel Antiplatelet Perioperative Bridging Protocol for Lung Lobectomy: A Case Report.
We describe the novel addition of ticagrelor (a short-acting oral antiplatelet agent) to eptifibatide (a short-acting intravenous antiplatelet agent) to bridge DAPT for surgery. DISCUSSION: This ticagrelor-eptifibatide perioperative bridge resulted in decreased preoperative hospitalization compared with eptifibatide alone. There were no associated perioperative cardiac or bleeding complications. PMID: 31926566 [PubMed - in process] (Source: The Permanente journal)

Stent-Retriever Thrombectomy Through An Occluded Pipeline Embolization Device
Publication date: Available online 27 December 2019Source: Interdisciplinary NeurosurgeryAuthor(s): Robert Starling, Mohamed Abouelleil, Jefferson Miley, Andrew P. CarlsonAbstractA 71-year-old female with a history of a right medial paraclinoid aneurysm was treated with pipeline embolization device and placed on dual antiplatelet therapy for 6 months. Clopidogrel was discontinued at 6 months, and the patient developed dysarthria, left-hemiplegia, and left-sided facial droop two days later. A CT angiogram demonstrated thrombus formation in the pipeline embolization device resulting in complete carotid occlusion. She present...

Routine Glycoprotein IIb/IIIa Inhibitor Therapy in ST-Segment Elevation Myocardial Infarction: A Meta-analysis
ConclusionsRoutine GPI administration in STEMI resulted in a reduction in mortality, driven by reductions in recurrent ischemic events—however predominantly in pre-prasugrel/ticagrelor trials.
