Safety of Eptifibatide in Subarachnoid Hemorrhage Patients Requiring Antiplatelet Agents. (P2.285)
Conclusions:Our results indicate that administering IV Eptifibatide to prevent thrombotic complications after endovascular coil embolization in selected patients with aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage is safe. Multicenter prospective trials are warranted to corroborate our findings.Disclosure: Dr. Mehta has nothing to disclose. Dr. Song has nothing to disclose. Dr. DeCarvalho has nothing to disclose. Role of heterotrimeric G proteins in platelet activation and clot formation in platelets treated with integrin αIIbβ3 inhibitor.
Authors: Budnik I, Shenkman B, Hauschner H, Zilinsky I, Savion N Abstract Mechanisms of platelet activation are triggered by thrombin, adenosine diphosphate (ADP), epinephrine, thromboxane A2, and other soluble agonists which induce signaling via heterotrimeric Gαq, Gαi, and Gα12/13 proteins. We have undertaken a study addressing the contribution of these G proteins to platelet activation and clot formation in the presence of eptifibatide, thus excluding outside-in signaling provided by integrin αIIbβ3-fibrinogen engagement. Selective and combined activation of the G proteins was achieved by using com...

The comparative safety of abciximab versus eptifibatide in patients on dialysis undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention: Insights from the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan Cardiovascular Consortium (BMC2)
ConclusionsDespite being contraindicated in dialysis, eptifibatide was used approximately 3.5 times more frequently than abciximab among dialysis patients undergoing PCI but was associated with similar in‐hospital outcomes. (Source: Journal of Interventional Cardiology)

Ischemic Stroke After Treatment of Intraprocedural Thrombosis During Stent-Assisted Coiling and Flow Diversion [Brief Report]
Conclusions—Current protocols for treatment of intraprocedural thrombosis associated with placement of intra-arterial devices were effective in preventing ischemic stroke in ≈80% of cases. Current smoking was the only independent predictor of ischemic stroke. (Source: Stroke)

Dual antiplatelet therapy and non-cardiac surgery: evolving issues and anesthetic implications.
Authors: Song JW, Soh S, Shim JK Abstract Dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT) consisting of aspirin plus a P2Y12 inhibitor (clopidogrel, prasugrel, or ticagrelor) is imperative for the treatment of acute coronary syndrome, particularly during the re-endothelialization period after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). When patients undergo surgery during this period, the consequences of stent thrombosis are far more serious than those of bleeding complications, except in cases of intracranial surgery. The recommendations for perioperative DAPT have changed with emerging evidence regarding the improved eff...

Abstract B62: Role of the blood microenvironment in the upregulation of oncoproteins in circulating pancreatic cancer cells
Conclusion: We show that the expression of c-MYC in PANC-1 cancer cells can be upregulated by platelets, revealing a novel mechanism of platelet action in the progression of cancer and suggesting that the overexpression of c-MYC at the metastatic niche may be inhibited through the use of platelet inhibitors. We are currently characterizing the molecular underpinnings of platelet-mediated c-MYC regulation with respect to the contribution of platelets to cancer cell proliferation and growth.Citation Format: Annachiara Mitrugno, Katherine Pelz, Rosalie Sears, Owen McCarty. Fasting Glucose, NT-proBNP, Treatment with Eptifibatide, and Outcomes in Non –ST-Segment Elevation Acute Coronary Syndromes: An Analysis from EARLY ACS
Higher N-terminal pro –B-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) levels have been linked to a more favorable glucometabolic profile. Little is known about the interaction of NT-proBNP and fasting glucose in non–ST-segment elevation acute coronary syndrome (NSTE ACS). (Source: International Journal of Cardiology)

Intracoronary Eptifibatide During Primary Percutaneous Coronary Intervention in Early Versus Late Presenters with ST Segment Elevation Myocardial Infarction: A Randomized Trial
ConclusionIC eptifibatide might improve the reperfusion markers during PPCI for STEMI patients presenting after 3  h from onset of symptoms. A large randomized study is recommended to ascertain the benefits of IC eptifibatide in late presenters on clinical outcomes. (Source: Cardiology and Therapy)

Intracoronary versus Intravenous eptifibatide during percutaneous coronary intervention for acute ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction; a randomized controlled trial
AbstractAlthough aspirin and clopidogrel seem to be quite enough during low risk percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), the combination may need some reinforcement in complex situations such as primary PCI. By modifying the route and also the duration of administration, glycoprotein IIb/IIIa inhibitors might be a viable option. The aim of this study is to compare the benefits and disadvantages of three different methods of administration of eptifibatide in primary PCI population. Primary PCI candidates were randomized in three groups on which three different methods of administration of eptifibitide were tested: intrave...
