Development of a simple paste for 3D printing of drug formulations containing a mesoporous material loaded with a poorly water-soluble drug
This study showcases the feasibility of a straightforward yet groundbreaking hybrid 3D printing system employing SSE to incorporate drug-loaded mesoporous magnesium carbonate (MMC) into two different drug formulations, each designed for distinct administration routes. MMC was loaded with the poorly water-soluble drug ibuprofen via a solvent evaporation method and mixed with PEG 400 as a binder and lubricant, facilitating subsequent SSE. The formulation is non-aqueous, unlike most pastes which are used for SSE, and thus is beneficial for the incorporation of poorly water-soluble drugs. The 3D printing process yielded tablet...

Ultrasonic-assisted synthesis of CaCu < sub > 3 < /sub > Ti < sub > 4 < /sub > O < sub > 12 < /sub > /reduced graphene oxide composites for enhanced photocatalytic degradation of pharmaceutical products: Ibuprofen and Ciprofloxacin
The objective of this research is to create a highly effective approach for eliminating pollutants from the environment through the process of photocatalytic degradation. The study centers around the production of composites consisting of CaCu3Ti4O12 (CCTO) and reduced graphene oxide (rGO) using an ultrasonic-assisted method, with a focus on their capacity to degrade ibuprofen (IBF) and ciprofloxacin (CIP) via photodegradation. The impact of rGO on the structure, morphology, and optical properties of CCTO was inspected using XRD, FTIR, Raman, FESEM, XPS, BET, and UV-Vis. Morphology characterization showed that rGO particle...

The effect of lacosamide on calcitonin gene-related peptide serum level in episodic migraine patients: a randomized, controlled trial
ConclusionThe daily use of lacosamide 50  mg Bid for three months in episodic migraine patients was associated with a significant reduction in serum CGRP-LI, better clinical outcomes regarding frequency and duration of migraine attacks, and was well tolerated by patients. These results were derived from an open-label pilot study that need ed to be thoroughly investigated by a large-scale, randomized, double-blinded, placebo-controlled study.Trial registration: We registered our trial on ClinicalTrials.gov, named after"The Lacosamide's Effect on Calcitonin Gene-related Peptide in Migraine Patients," and with a c...

The effect of oral analgesic premedication on the success rate of inferior alveolar nerve block for teeth with irreversible pulpitis: A randomized clinical trial
Conclusions: Premedication with Pharmapain (an anti-inflammatory agent) and dexamethasone (a corticosteroid) does not enhance the success rate of the IANB technique in mandibular molars with irreversible pulpitis compared to placebo. However, the use of dexamethasone was significantly more effective than Pharmapain in reducing pain severity at inserting the first endodontic file. Ototoxic and nephrotoxic drugs in neonatal intensive care units: results of a Spanish and Italian survey
Conclusions:The study underscores the need for clinical guidelines and uniform practices in managing ototoxic and nephrotoxic drugs in neonatal units. Awareness is high, but inconsistencies in practices indicate a necessity for standardization, including the implementation of therapeutic drug monitoring and the involvement of clinical pharmacologists. Addressing these issues is crucial for optimizing neonatal care in Southern Europe. What is Known:• Neonates in intensive care face a high risk of nephrotoxicity and ototoxicity from drugs like aminoglycosides, vancomycin, loop diuretics, and ibuprofen.• Therapeutic drug m...

Quantum chemistry and pharmacy: diagnostic check of the thermochemistry of ibuprofen
Chemphyschem. 2024 Mar 12:e202400066. doi: 10.1002/cphc.202400066. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe thermodynamic data on ibuprofen available in the literature shows that the disarray of experimental results is unacceptable for this very important drug. The data on ibuprofens available in the literature were collected, combined with our complementary experimental results and evaluated. The enthalpies of combustion and formation of the crystalline RS-(±)- and S-(+)-ibuprofens were measured using high-precision combustion calorimetry. The temperature dependence of the vapour pressure of S-(+)-ibuprofen was measured using t...
