Quantum chemistry and pharmacy: diagnostic check of the thermochemistry of ibuprofen
Chemphyschem. 2024 Mar 12:e202400066. doi: 10.1002/cphc.202400066. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe thermodynamic data on ibuprofen available in the literature shows that the disarray of experimental results is unacceptable for this very important drug. The data on ibuprofens available in the literature were collected, combined with our complementary experimental results and evaluated. The enthalpies of combustion and formation of the crystalline RS-(±)- and S-(+)-ibuprofens were measured using high-precision combustion calorimetry. The temperature dependence of the vapour pressure of S-(+)-ibuprofen was measured using t...

Guidance for healthcare providers on newest guidelines for over-the-counter drug treatment of mild symptoms of COVID-19. (word count=18; limit=20)
On January 18, 2024, the United States (US) Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)1 issued their most recent guidelines for over the counter drugs for COVID-19, stating “Most people with COVID-19 have mild illness and can recover at home. You can treat symptoms with over-the-counter medicines, such as acetaminophen (Tylenol) or ibuprofen (Motrin, Advil), to help you feel better.” (Source: The American Journal of Medicine)

Investigating the Effect of an Anti-Inflammatory Drug in Determining NURR1 Expression and Thus Exploring the Progression of Parkinson's Disease
Physiol Res. 2024 Mar 11;73(1):139-155.ABSTRACTNonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs are the most widely used drugs for Parkinson's disease (PD), of which ibuprofen shows positive effects in suppressing symptoms; however, the associated risk needs to be addressed in different pathological stages. Initially, we developed an initial and advanced stage of the Parkinson disease mouse model by intraperitoneal injection of MPTP (20 mg/kg; 1-methyl-4-phenyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydro-pyridine) for 10 and 20 days, respectively. Subsequently, ibuprofen treatment was administered for 2 months, and a pole test, rotarod test, histology, immuno...

Auricular acupressure combined with Tongtian oral liquid for acute attacks of migraine without aura: a single-center, retrospective study
CONCLUSIONS: Auricular acupressure combined with Tongtian Oral Liquid can relieve the acute pain of migraine without aura and reduce the number of pain episodes. The curative effect of this combination is better than that of western medicine alone.PMID:38463577 | PMC:PMC10918129 (Source: American Journal of Translational Research)

A Report on the Use and Safety of Nonsteroidal Anti-inflammatory Drugs among 22,553 Children from Sample Hospitals in Shanghai
CONCLUSION: Nimesulide and ibuprofen achieved a generally higher response rate than paracetamol among the surveyed children from Shanghai. Although bronchopneumonia was the most common diagnosis among all children treated with NSAIDs, the diagnoses were less diverse in those treated with nimesulide. The length of hospital stay was the shortest among children receiving ibuprofen, while the response rate of paracetamol was the lowest. The incidence of abnormal liver function was the lowest in children receiving nimesulide. All of the three NSAIDs might induce liver function impairment, but the risk was not significantly diff...
