Bioadhesive Hyaluronic Acid-Based Hydrogels for Spinal Cord Injury
Biomacromolecules. 2024 Feb 20. doi: 10.1021/acs.biomac.3c01186. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTSpinal cord injuries (SCI) have devastating physical, psychological, and psychosocial consequences for patients. One challenge of nerve tissue repair is the lack of a natural extracellular matrix (ECM) that guides the regenerating axons. Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a major ECM component and plays a fundamental role in facilitating lesion healing. Herein, we developed HA-based adhesive hydrogels by modification of HA with dopamine, a mussel-inspired compound with excellent adhesive properties in an aqueous environment. The hydrogels w...

Gelatin/O-carboxymethyl chitosan injectable self-healing hydrogels for ibuprofen and naproxen dual release
Int J Biol Macromol. 2024 Feb 16:130266. doi: 10.1016/j.ijbiomac.2024.130266. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTRecently, a significantly greater clinical benefit has been reported with a combination of glucosamine sulfate and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) compared to either treatment alone for the growing osteoarthritis (OA) disease. So, this study introduces hydrogels using O-carboxymethyl chitosan (O-CMC, structurally akin glucosamine glycan), and Gelatin type A (GA) in a 1:2 ratio with β-glycerophosphate (βGPh) at varying percentages (5 %, 12.5 %, and 15 %). We show that hydrogel properties, adaptable for...

Physical compatibility of colistin with analgesics during simulated Y-site administration
CONCLUSION: Colistin was found to be incompatible with ibuprofen and metamizole sodium formulations. It should also not be combined with morphine sulfate due to the significant differences in the pH value of the preparations. The colistin 0.67 mg/mL and 1.5 mg/mL infusion solutions were physically compatible with ketoprofen, tramadol hydrochloride, and paracetamol.PMID:38358317 | DOI:10.1093/ajhp/zxae035 (Source: American Journal of Health-System Pharmacy : AJHP)

Enantioselective separation and determination of ibuprofen: Stereoselective pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics and analytical methods
Chirality. 2024 Feb;36(2):e23647. doi: 10.1002/chir.23647.ABSTRACTIbuprofen (IBP), the 29th most prescribed drug in the United States in 2019, is a widely used nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) comprising two enantiomers, (R)-IBP and (S)-IBP, collectively known as (RS)-IBP. This critical review examines analytical techniques for the enantioselective separation and determination of IBP enantiomers, crucial for pharmaceutical and clinical applications. The review focuses on state-of-the-art methods, including chromatographic techniques including high-performance liquid chromatography, gas chromatography, liquid chr...
