Treatment of Patent Ductus Arteriosus in Premature Infants: Intravenous Paracetamol or Oral Ibuprofen?
CONCLUSION: Intravenous paracetamol has equal efficacy compared to oral ibuprofen in the treatment of PDA. Also, it seems to be associated with a lower risk of hyperbilirubinemia following the treatment.PMID:38310434 | PMC:PMC10685834 | DOI:10.34172/aim.2023.50 (Source: Archives of Iranian Medicine)

Molecules, Vol. 29, Pages 715: The Fabrication, Drug Loading, and Release Behavior of Porous Mannitol
In this study, porous mannitol was investigated as a drug carrier for low water solubility drugs. Its fabrication, drug loading, and drug release mechanisms were investigated. Porous mannitol was fabricated using the co-spray–antisolvent process and utilizing polyvinylpyrrolidone K30 (PVP K30) as the template agent. Porous mannitol particles were prepared by changing the proportion of the template agent, spraying the particles with mannitol, and eluting with ethanol in order to regulate their pore structure. In subsequent studies, porous mannitol morphology and characteristics were determined systematically. ...

Drug-drug interaction assessment based on a large-scale spontaneous reporting system for hepato- and renal-toxicity, and thrombocytopenia with concomitant low-dose methotrexate and analgesics use
CONCLUSIONS: Studies using spontaneous reporting systems have limitations such as reporting bias or lack of patient background; however, the results of our comprehensive analysis support the results of previous clinical or epidemiological studies. This study also demonstrated the usefulness of FAERS for DDI assessment.PMID:38303016 | PMC:PMC10832291 | DOI:10.1186/s40360-024-00738-6 (Source: BMC Pharmacology and Toxicology)

Additive Value of Intranasal Fentanyl on Ibuprofen for Pain Management of Children with Moderate to Severe Headaches: A Randomized Controlled Trial
Dr. Boutin and the research team at Sainte-Justine Hospital in Montreal published a recent randomized controlled trial (RCT) to study the use of intranasal fentanyl (INF) for pain relief in children presenting to their emergency department (ED) with headaches (1). INF is used increasingly in pediatric EDs for pain relief, as it is painless to administer and inexpensive. An RCT investigating its application in moderate to severe pediatric headaches is therefore clinically informative. We are in strong agreement with the authors ’ conclusion that INF should not be used for this indication and would like to advance suppleme...

Problems in management of medication overuse headache in transgender and gender non-conforming populations
Primary headache disorders, such as migraine, account for a significant portion of disability rates worldwide, yet patients still struggle to receive the adequate medical and emotional support necessary to improve health outcomes. Insufficient pain management through either impractical pharmaceutical treatments or absent emotional support networks can worsen physical and mental health outcomes since comorbidities commonly associated with headache include hypertension, diabetes, depression, and anxiety. A lack of awareness on headache pathology and its observable severity can lead to pain-related prejudice that destroys ben...
