Effects of total saikosaponins on CYP3A4 and CYP1A2 in HepaRG cells
Exp Ther Med. 2024 Mar 21;27(5):217. doi: 10.3892/etm.2024.12505. eCollection 2024 May.ABSTRACTTotal saikosaponins (TSS) form a group of chemically and biologically active components that can be extracted from Bupleurum, with reported antidepressive, anti-inflammatory, antiviral, antiendotoxin, antitumor, anti-pulmonary fibrosis and anti-gastric ulcer effects. Bupleurum or TSS is frequently utilized in clinical practice alongside other medications (such as entecavir, lamivudine, compound paracetamol and amantadine hydrochloride capsules), leading to an increased risk of drug-drug interactions. The cytochrome P450 (CYP) fam...

Recent Advancements in Refashioning of NSAIDs and their Derivatives as Anticancer Candidates
Curr Pharm Des. 2024 Apr 5. doi: 10.2174/0113816128304230240327044201. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTInflammation is critical to the formation and development of tumors and is closely associated with cancer. Therefore, addressing inflammation and the mediators that contribute to the inflammatory process may be a useful strategy for both cancer prevention and treatment. Tumor predisposition can be attributed to inflammation. It has been demonstrated that NSAIDs can modify the tumor microenvironment by enhancing apoptosis and chemosensitivity and reducing cell migration. There has been a recent rise in interest in drug repos...

Advanced remediation in the presence of ferrous iron and carbonate-containing water by oxygen-induced oxidation of organic contaminants
Chemosphere. 2024 Apr 4:141856. doi: 10.1016/j.chemosphere.2024.141856. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTMechanistic investigations of an environmentally friendly and easy-to-implement oxidation method in the remediation of contaminated anoxic waters, i.e. groundwater, through the sole use of oxygen for the oxygen-induced oxidation of pollutants were the focus of this work. This was achieved by the addition of O2 under anoxic conditions in the presence of ferrous iron which initiated the ferrous oxidation and the simultaneous formation of reactive •OH radicals. The involvement of inorganic ligands such as carbonates in the ...

Molecules, Vol. 29, Pages 1650: Enhanced Solubility of Ibuprofen by Complexation with & beta;-cyclodextrin and Citric Acid
Molecules, Vol. 29, Pages 1650: Enhanced Solubility of Ibuprofen by Complexation with β-cyclodextrin and Citric Acid Molecules doi: 10.3390/molecules29071650 Authors: Tsveta Sarafska Stanislava Ivanova Todor Dudev Christo Tzachev Vesselin Petrov Tony Spassov The ability of β-CD to form inclusion complexes with ibuprofen (IBU) and at the same time to make a two-phase system with citric acid was explored in the present study for achieving improved solubility and dissolution rate of IBU. Mechanical milling as well as mechanical milling combined with thermal annealing of the powder mixtu...

Use of metamizole and other non-opioid analgesics in Switzerland between 2014 and 2019: an observational study using a large health insurance claims database
CONCLUSION: In Switzerland, metamizole was increasingly claimed between 2014 and 2019. Metamizole was most frequently claimed by older adults and patients with comedications suggestive of underlying conditions, which can be worsened or caused by use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. The lack of studies regarding the effectiveness and safety of metamizole in this population warrants further investigation.PMID:38579298 | DOI:10.57187/s.3535 (Source: Swiss Medical Weekly)

Use of unlicensed drugs in a Swiss Pediatric University Hospital and associated prescribing error rates - a retrospective observational study
CONCLUSIONS: Unlicensed drugs are frequently prescribed in this paediatric hospital setting in Switzerland. Around every tenth prescription is an unlicensed drug. Because unlicensed drugs showed a significantly higher rate of prescribing errors, licensed drugs are favourable in terms of medication safety and should be prescribed whenever possible. If no licensed drug is available, imported drugs should be favoured over formula drugs due to lower prescribing error rates. To increase medication safety in paediatrics in Switzerland, efforts are necessary to increase the number of suitable licensed drug formulations for paedia...
