A novel non-opioid protocol for medically supervised opioid withdrawal and transition to antagonist treatment.
CONCLUSION: This retrospective chart review suggests the feasibility of a novel protocol for medically supervised opioid withdrawal and transition to relapse prevention strategies, including injectable ER naltrexone. This withdrawal protocol does not utilize opioid agonists or other controlled substances.‬‬‬‬. Adulteration practices of psychoactive illicit drugs: an updated review.
CONCLUSIONS: The wide availability of illicit psychotropic drugs is the most serious hazard threatening consumers. Indeed emergency departments are often responsible in evaluating damages caused not only by the base substance, but also by other eventual compounds added to mimic or antagonize drug effects or simply dilute the drug amount, with a possible harmful synergic toxic action. Road traffic crash risk associated with prescription of hydroxyzine and other sedating H1-antihistamines: A responsibility and case-crossover study
Conclusion Even if it is difficult to disentangle the part of the increased risk that would be causally related to hydroxyzine and the part related to behaviours of patients with a heavy psychiatric disorder, our study raises the alarm on the crash risk linked to hydroxyzine utilization in countries in which the anxiolytic indication is widespread. Risk of QT prolongation and torsade de pointes associated with exposure to hydroxyzine: re ‐evaluation of an established drug
Abstract Several noncardiac drugs have been linked to cardiac safety concerns, highlighting the importance of post‐marketing surveillance and continued evaluation of the benefit‐risk of long‐established drugs. Here, we examine the risk of QT prolongation and/or torsade de pointes (TdP) associated with the use of hydroxyzine, a first generation sedating antihistamine. We have used a combined methodological approach to re‐evaluate the cardiac safety profile of hydroxyzine, including: (1) a full review of the sponsor pharmacovigilance safety database to examine real‐world data on the risk of QT prolongation and/or T...

Cognitive tests predict real-world errors: the relationship between drug name confusion rates in laboratory-based memory and perception tests and corresponding error rates in large pharmacy chains
Conclusions Across two distinct pharmacy chains, there is a strong and significant association between drug name confusion error rates observed in the real world and those observed in laboratory-based tests of memory and perception. Regulators and drug companies seeking a validated preapproval method for identifying confusing drug names ought to consider using these simple tests. By using a standard battery of memory and perception tests, it should be possible to reduce the number of confusing look-alike and sound-alike drug name pairs that reach the market, which will help protect patients from potentially harmful medicat...

Drug-tea polyphenol interaction (II) complexation of piperazine derivatives with green tea polyphenol
Publication date: Available online 29 March 2017 Source:Thermochimica Acta Author(s): Tomonori Ohata, Hirohito Ikeda, Masaaki Inenaga, Takeshi Mizobe, Miho Yukawa, Masao Fujisawa, Hatsumi Aki Complex formation between piperazine derivatives (PD) and green tea polyphenols (GTP) in an aqueous solutions and the mechanism were studied by isothermal titration microcalorimetry and molecular modeling study. Lomerizine dihydrochloride (LMZ), cetirizine dihydrochloride (CTZ) and hydroxyzine dihydrochloride (HXZ) were used as PD, and (−)-epigallocatechin gallate (EGCg) and (−)-epigallocatechin (EGC) were used as GTP. Ketamine infusion was effective for severe pain of Non-Hodgkin lymphoma
Publication date: Available online 7 March 2017 Source:Egyptian Journal of Anaesthesia Author(s): Tomoki Nishiyama A 52years old man with a Non-Hodgkin lymphoma had severe pain at right buttock and lower leg. Sustained-release tablet of morphine 90mg/day, intravenous morphine 40mg/day, granisetron 9mg/day, metoclopramide 30mg/day, domperidone suppository 60mg/day, intravenous hydroxyzine 25mg/day, and haloperidol 20mg/day did not decrease pain and side effects. Intravenous ketamine 10mg in 15 min was quite effective for analgesia. Then infusion of ketamine started with 7mg/h and increased to 10mg/h with morphine 20mg/da...

Assessment of Lemna minor (duckweed) and Corbicula fluminea (freshwater clam) as potential indicators of contaminated aquatic ecosystems: responses to presence of psychoactive drug mixtures.
Abstract The pharmaceutical products are emerging pollutants continuously released into the environment, because they cannot be effectively removed by the wastewater treatment plants. In recent years, questions have been raised concerning the environmental risks related to these pollutants. The goal of this research was to evaluate the responses in Lemna minor after 7 days and in Corbicula fluminea after differing durations (1, 3, 7, and 19 days) of exposure to the psychoactive drug mixture (valproic acid, citalopram, carbamazepine, cyamemazine, hydroxyzine, oxazepam, norfluoxetine, lorazepam, fluoxetine...

D-optimal mixture design optimization of a HPLC method for simultaneous determination of commonly used antihistaminic parent molecules and their active metabolites in human serum and urine.
Abstract This present study describes a specific, precise, sensitive and accurate method for simultaneous determination of hydroxyzine, loratadine, terfenadine, rupatadine and their main active metabolites cetirizine, desloratadine and fexofenadine in serum and urine by using meclizine as an internal standard. Solid phase extraction method for sample clean-up and preconcentration of analytes was carried out by using Phenomenex Strata-X-C and Strata X polymeric cartridges. Chromatographic analysis was performed on a Phenomenex cyano (150 mm x 4.6 mm i.d., 5 µm) analytical column. A D-optimal mixture ...
