Wnt Signaling Inhibition Prevents Postnatal Inflammation and Disease Progression in Mouse Congenital Myxomatous Valve Disease
CONCLUSIONS: Wnt signaling is involved in the initiation of mitral valve abnormalities and inflammation but is not responsible for later-stage valve disease progression once it has been initiated. Thus, Wnt signaling contributes to MVD progression in a time-dependent manner and provides a promising therapeutic target for the early treatment of congenital MVD in Marfan syndrome.PMID:38660802 | DOI:10.1161/ATVBAHA.123.320388 (Source: Arteriosclerosis, Thrombosis and Vascular Biology)

Conceptual Approach to Body Fluids and Edema, Education  Determines Clinical Outcomes in Heart Failure
Iran J Kidney Dis. 2024 Mar;18(2):65-67. doi: 10.5254/1aytkx77.ABSTRACTIn this brief communication, we reemphasize the importance of critical thinking in clinical practice using the example of edema. The common practice of thinking and inquiry by practicing clinicians has beneficial implications for healthcare by improving outcomes and patient care while alleviating the burden of misconceptions in practice. We provide an in-depth and interactive investigation of physiological concepts as a foundation for understanding body fluid dynamics. Finally, we offer a new classification of symptoms of heart failure. DOI: 10.52547/ij...

Growth differentiation factor-15 serum concentrations reflect disease severity and anemia in patients with inflammatory bowel disease
CONCLUSION: For the first time, we demonstrated that serum concentrations of GDF-15 are elevated in patients with IBD in comparison to healthy controls, and the results imply that GDF-15 might be involved in IBD pathophysiology. Yet, it remains elusive whether GDF-15 could serve as a prognostic indicator in these patients.PMID:38659482 | PMC:PMC11036493 | DOI:10.3748/wjg.v30.i13.1899 (Source: World Journal of Gastroenterology)

Two Symptom Clusters Identified in Patients with Acute Heart Failure
According to this study: Two distinct symptom clusters were identified in patients with acute heart failure: one with severe congestion and the other with mild congestion.Identification of these symptom clusters in the ED could help with symptom management, patient triage, diagnosis, and self-care at home.PMID:38661705 | DOI:10.1097/01.NAJ.0001016392.13580.5b (Source: The American Journal of Nursing)

Transportation Noise Pollution and Cardiovascular Health
Circ Res. 2024 Apr 26;134(9):1113-1135. doi: 10.1161/CIRCRESAHA.123.323584. Epub 2024 Apr 25.ABSTRACTEpidemiological studies have found that transportation noise increases the risk for cardiovascular morbidity and mortality, with solid evidence for ischemic heart disease, heart failure, and stroke. According to the World Health Organization, at least 1.6 million healthy life years are lost annually from traffic-related noise in Western Europe. Traffic noise at night causes fragmentation and shortening of sleep, elevation of stress hormone levels, and increased oxidative stress in the vasculature and the brain. These factor...

AI-enabled cardiac chambers volumetry in coronary artery calcium scans (AI-CAC(TM)) predicts heart failure and outperforms NT-proBNP: The multi-ethnic study of Atherosclerosis
CONCLUSION: AI-CAC volumetry significantly outperformed NT-proBNP and the Agatston CAC score, and significantly improved the AUC and category-free NRI of clinical risk factors for incident HF prediction.PMID:38664073 | DOI:10.1016/j.jcct.2024.04.006 (Source: Atherosclerosis)

The Role of Pyroptosis in Coronary Heart Disease
Anatol J Cardiol. 2024 Apr 25. doi: 10.14744/AnatolJCardiol.2024.4001. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe incidence and mortality of cardiovascular diseases, of which coronary heart disease (CHD) is a significant cardiovascular burden, are on the rise. Pyroptosis as an incipient programmed cell death mediated by inflammasomes can sense cytoplasmic contamination or interference and is typically marked by intracellular swelling, plasma membrane blistering and intense inflammatory cytokine release. As research on pyroptosis continues to progress, there is mounting evidence that pyroptosis is a vital participant in the pathophy...

Comparison of Incidence and Prognostic Impact of Ischemic Major Bleeding and Heart Failure Events in Patients With Chronic Coronary Syndrome: Insights From the CORONOR Registry
CONCLUSIONS: Hospitalization for HF has become both the most frequent and one of the most ominous events among patients with chronic coronary syndrome. Although less frequent, major bleeding is strongly associated with worse patient survival. Secondary prevention should not be limited to preventing ischemic events. Minimizing bleeding and preventing HF may be at least as important.PMID:38660793 | DOI:10.1161/CIRCULATIONAHA.123.067938 (Source: Circulation)

The Tricuspid Valve: A Review of Pathology, Imaging, and Current Treatment Options: A Scientific Statement From the American Heart Association
Circulation. 2024 Apr 25. doi: 10.1161/CIR.0000000000001232. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTTricuspid valve disease is an often underrecognized clinical problem that is associated with significant morbidity and mortality. Unfortunately, patients will often present late in their disease course with severe right-sided heart failure, pulmonary hypertension, and life-limiting symptoms that have few durable treatment options. Traditionally, the only treatment for tricuspid valve disease has been medical therapy or surgery; however, there have been increasing interest and success with the use of transcatheter tricuspid valve ther...
