Identification of common mechanisms and biomarkers of atrial fibrillation and heart failure based on machine learning
ConclusionsWe identified four biological markers that are highly correlated with AF and HF, namely,GLUL,NCF2,S100A12, andSRGN. Our findings provide theoretical basis for the clinical diagnosis and treatment of AF and HF. (Source: ESC Heart Failure)

Efficacy of a Telemonitoring System as a Complementary Strategy in the Treatment of Patients With Heart Failure: Randomized Clinical Trial
Comput Inform Nurs. 2024 Apr 24. doi: 10.1097/CIN.0000000000001115. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTEpisodes of decompensation are the main cause of hospital admissions in patients with heart failure. For this reason, the use of mobile apps emerges as an excellent strategy to improve coverage, real-time monitoring, and timeliness of care. ControlVit is an electronic application for early detection of complications studied within the context of a tertiary university hospital. Patients were randomized to the use of ControlVit versus placebo, during a 6-month follow-up. The primary outcome was the difference in numbers of readm...

Cases: Decompensated Heart Failure Secondary to Hypopituitarism in an Elderly Patient
Intern Med. 2024 Apr 23. doi: 10.2169/internalmedicine.3491-24. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTHypopituitarism is difficult to diagnose because of its non-specific symptoms, especially in the presence of comorbidities. A 77-year-old woman with worsening anorexia and exertional dyspnea was initially diagnosed with decompensated dry cold-type heart failure. Hormonal laboratory tests indicated secondary hypothyroidism as a part of the evaluation of heart failure. Furthermore, pituitary magnetic resonance imaging revealed thickening of the pituitary stalk and a loss of signal intensity in the posterior pituitary, thus suggestin...

Use of sacubitril/valsartan in patients with heart failure in primary care in Germany: the AURORA-HF noninterventional study
CONCLUSION: In patients with symptomatic HFrEF treated in primary care, the group in whom Sac/Val was initiated was characterized by a higher NYHA class and lower LVEF compared to patients in whom Sac/Val was not initiated. Sac/Val was well tolerated, with a high proportion completing 1 year of therapy.PMID:38656397 | DOI:10.1007/s00059-024-05248-z (Source: Herz)

Beta Blockers in Contemporary Cardiology: Is It Better to Cast Them Out?
Korean Circ J. 2024 Apr;54(4):165-171. doi: 10.4070/kcj.2023.0209.ABSTRACTBeta blockers are one of the commonest prescription drugs in medicine and they have been thought to revolutionize the treatment of heart failure (HF) with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) in the last century. In addition to HFrEF, they are prescribed for a variety of diseases in cardiology from hypertension to HF, angina, and stable coronary artery disease (CAD). The increased prescription of beta blockers in conditions like HF with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF), and stable CAD may be doing more harm than good as per the data we have so far. T...
