Feasibility of EMDR toward Personality Functioning in Older Adults with PTSD
CONCLUSIONS: Observed improvements in personality functioning from pre to post EMDRtreatment were explained by PTSD-severity. Identityintegration improved significantly over time. Results suggest that participants with "othertreatment" showed more severe baseline-pathology and thus lower personality functioning.CLINICAL IMPLICATIONS: EMDR, in addition to being a feasible treatment option for older adults with PTSD, improves personality functioning and reduces the presence of PDs over time.'PMID:38656832 | DOI:10.1080/07317115.2024.2344793 (Source: Clinical Gerontologist)

"I'm still in the lap of the gods … I don't know whether I'm going to improve or not": listening to people with dementia or cognitive impairment and their support people, talking about inpatient rehabilitation experiences
CONCLUSIONS: Practical, emotional, process-related, and dementia-specific factors may influence the experiences of people living with dementia or cognitive impairment when participating in inpatient rehabilitation. Future research could investigate whether improvements focused on these factors might enhance quality of care for people with dementia.PMID:38655713 | DOI:10.1080/09638288.2024.2343822 (Source: Disability and Rehabilitation)

The hippocampus as a structural and functional network epicentre for distant cortical thinning in neurocognitive aging
Neurobiol Aging. 2024 Apr 18;139:82-89. doi: 10.1016/j.neurobiolaging.2024.04.004. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAlterations in grey matter (GM) and white matter (WM) are associated with memory impairment across the neurocognitive aging spectrum and theorised to spread throughout brain networks. Functional and structural connectivity (FC,SC) may explain widespread atrophy. We tested the effect of SC and FC to the hippocampus on cortical thickness (CT) of connected areas. In 419 (223 F) participants (agemean=73 ± 8) from the Alzheimer's Disease Neuroimaging Initiative, cortical regions associated with memory (Rey Auditory ...

Emergency Department-Based Physical Function Measures for Falls in Older Adults and Outcomes: A Secondary Analysis of GAPcare
CONCLUSIONS: Measures of function collected at the index ED visit, such as the AM-PAC 6 clicks and TUG time, may be helpful at predicting clinical outcomes for older adults presenting for a fall. Based on our study findings, we suggest a novel workflow to guide the use of these clinical measures for ED patients with falls.PMID:38656264 | DOI:10.1519/JPT.0000000000000403 (Source: Health Physics)

Sea creatures began to glow half a billion years ago
When a shaggy bamboo coral ( Isidella tentaculum ) gets jostled by the arm of a remotely operated submersible, its limbs begin to sparkle with bluish light. The gleam penetrates the blackness of the deep sea, where many octocorals—an ancient, diverse group of marine invertebrates that includes quill-shaped sea pens, bamboo corals, and other soft corals and waving sea fans—form lush underwater gardens. Some three-quarters of all undersea animals can generate their own light , but the origin of this ability has been shrouded in mystery. Now, research reported today in the Proceedings...
