How are RVUs calculated for compensation purposes?
I'm a 3rd-year fellow here, starting job next summer in a community hospital-employed position. Pay is base + bonus after RVU threshold. I've heard different answers to this question from the various attendings at my institute. For those of you who are RVU based, how are RVUs calculated, and are the calculations uniform across all jobs you've had experience with? E.g. patient coming in for a double for dyspepsia and chronic diarrhea. You obtain biopsies in the upper, and then remove 2... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Ddsep 10
I'm trying to buy DDSEP-- which package should I buy? I was reading that the complete/digital version syllabus is really only just a copy paste of the answer explanations for the Qbank and to save my money and to only buy the question bank. I wanted to see what other people's thoughts were on whether the syllabus was helpful. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Benefits of employed vs private practice
Hi all, Wanted to see if anyone had any thoughts in to the pros and cons of both models? I’m hearing about employed positions offering significant numbers and wonder if that can be a long term option without the worry of private practice over head and buy ins? Thanks (Source: Student Doctor Network)

what to look for in advanced endoscopy program
currently a second year fellow, preparing for advanced match next year. can you guys give pointers to what to look up in the respective programs when applying? My understanding is most programs(except few) require the advanced fellow to do EGD and colon 1 day a week, that will support their salary. My hope is get trained in ERCP, EUS, EMR, BE treatment, luminal stenting and possibly some intro to bariatric endoscopy(optional). Eventually plan to work in semi-academic environment. Job searching tips
Hi everyone, I am currently in a GI fellowship in the Mid West but looking to move back to south California summer of 2024. I just talked to a friend who has been doing private practice with two other partners for 2 years and this is his schedule: 7-9AM inpatient rounding 9-12PM outpatient clinics (seeing about 15 patients) 1-5PM outpatient procedures. On weekday call 1-2 days a week and Q3Weekend call. Is this schedule, call burden typical for pp? I prefer to have a split between... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Volume of clear liquid
Up to what volume do you consider okay for clear liquids prior to surgery? Couldn’t find anything definitive in my literature search. Saw a study that up to 10oz has little effect on gastric volume and pH. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

What ’s a week of GI-attending call like?
I’m an MS1 who’s interested in GI. I noticed that most of the job positions online require a 1:4 or 1:6 call. From my understanding, when an attending is on call for the week they will go to the hospital if needed / be up all hours of the night to answer questions, then go to work the next morning (like fellows do). I know it can vary a lot, but what’s a typical week of call like? Is it very stressful? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

FDA approves 'SKOUT' - a new AI device to detect colon polyps
https://www.cancertherapyadvisor.com/home/cancer-topics/gastrointestinal-cancers/fda-clears-skout-to-detect-colorectal-polyps-in-real-time-during-colonoscopy/ Interesting article that leads to more questions: Does FDA approval mean gastroenterologists can bill more for using the device vs standard colonoscopy? If so, will insurance companies reimburse for it? And on the path end, does this mean receiving more or less colon biopsies if this becomes widely adopted? I could see...
