Another Chances Thread
Hey there all, wanted to inquire what my chances for matching GI are, mainly because of low Step 1/2 scores. I am currently a resident at a top 10 US MD IM program, have lots of research both prior to residency and during (10+ abstracts/pubs), sit on various committees, and strong letters/connections overall. No red flags other than having low step scores think Step 1 in the 200s and Step 2 in the high 210s. No failures of any sort, great evals. Like to think I interview pretty well... Already a gastro consultant. What path should i follow for gmc registration, what first jobs in the NHS?
Hello! I've been a gastro consultant for 3 years now in my country. I'm looking to relocate to the UK for personal reasons. I cleared IELTS and i'm going to sit for plab and MRCP side by side to be able to relocate sooner while finishing up mrcp. Later, i wish to complete a CESR and get registered. What do you think about this choice? Possible? How long would it take? Also, with a plab gmc registration and mrcp 1 plus my experience, what kind of jobs should i aim for as first jobs... Most fun/diverse procedures to do among GI, Cards, and Pulm?
Is this a futile question considering probably nobody is double boarded in these specialties? What about IM docs who practiced in the 80s or earlier? I always see people talking about how enjoyable it is to scope as a gastroenterologist and you can see / fix a variety of pathologies. Could you make the same career out of doing that in Pulm? I've heard the volume is too low to do an Interventional Pulm practice but I'm sure someone's gonna be out there doing it. Are they having as much fun... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Pediatric Fellowships
Since most of the pediatric fellowships are designed to have around 2 years of research and 1 year of clinical experience, does anyone know if a person wants to do double fellowships eg pediatric intensive care after completing pediatric gastroenterology, would the person be required to complete both fellowships individually for a total of 6 years (3 each) or would doing one fellowship help in reducing the time for the second fellowship. Thank you in advance for your response. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

GI Attendings / Fellows Are you Happy?
Simple question from a medical student trying to figure out what I want to do with my life. I am on GI right now and am enjoying it so my question is simple. Are you happy with your decision? Why or why not? Thank you for responding. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

GI Competitiveness
Hi everyone. I'm a current US MD student trying to decide what field I want to go into. I have been considering GI pretty extensively, but I was wondering about its competitiveness out of IM. I know it is the most competitive fellowship, but how competitive? Is it similar in difficulty to landing a derm or ortho residency out of med school? GI is the top field I am interested in, but I am hesitant to choose IM and risk not getting a spot and being stuck doing IM or another subspecialty that... Is there such a thing as submitting too many letters of recommendation?
Here is my situation: I’m a D.O student applying to Internal Medicine. I have an above average application I think and am aiming for the most competitive academic programs I can get myself into. GI Boards 2020
Beyond DDSEP 9, what is everyone using to study? I am considering Steinberg but don't know if it's worth the $ given a 99% pass rate for first time certification. Those who have taken, what did you feel was most like the actual exam? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Shoes for endoscopy?
Hello everyone - I am just starting general GI fellowship and loving finally getting to do some endoscopy. I didn't really think about getting specific endoscopy footwear before starting fellowship. After doing an EGD in sneakers, an attending let me know I'd probably want to invest in some shoes for endoscopy (especially in the era of COVID), as my shoes are likely to get patient secretions or blood all over them at some point. What shoes/footwear do you like to wear during endoscopy... Shoes for endoscopy? (Source: Student Doctor Network)
