Non-paying patient?
Strange circumstance but I have a patient seen at my clinic for the past few months due to widespread body pain with fibromyalgia (in hindsight also psych overlay such as h/o trauma, gastric bypass), maintained on low-dose Buprenorphine by another physician whom she's no longer seeing due to insurance changes. She was reasonable for the first few visits with continuation of Buprenorphine. However at the last visit, she requested for increase to Oxycodone 15mg for pain....and I obviously did... GI Hours/lifestyle
I'm a medical student exploring my options and I discovered I really like GI, but work-life balance is an important factor for me. I'm wondering what the work schedule would look like practicing in a non academic setting (ie hospital employed or private practice). I have no interest in academic medicine. I know it's not considered a "lifestyle" specialty like derm or allergy, but it doesn't seem as intense as surgery or cardiology. Is having an 8-5 schedule (not including call of course)... Boost Breeze
You jedis think a jury of our peers would think boost breeze would fit the criteria of a clear?? my facility wants to bail on ensure clearest and move to this product which is clear but has protein whey isolates in it? I wasn’t thrilled the source of sugar is not malodextran (used in all the studies done in this field) but instead high fructose cornsyrup. Also typically we would want Low in osmolality to support gastric emptying before surgery??? But beyond those to points we have to... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

USMD - Matching fellowship from community IM program
Hi, I am an incoming PGY-1 at a community program who has aspirations of matching a procedural specialty. My current program does not have a PCCM or GI fellowship (my current interests) and I am worried about my prospects of matching fellowship. I have some research (1 abstract in GI, 1 abstract in cards from years ago, poster presentation at my med schools conference), step 1/2 238/258. I, unfortunately, fell pretty far down my ROL past my university programs. Have been pretty bummed... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Thoughts on Locums?
I am in the midst of a general GI fellowship and am thinking about locums for at least a short period of time after fellowship. Does anyone have any experience or thoughts about locums work? For those who have done it, how much were you compensated and what was a typical gig like in terms of volume, location, responsibilites, etc? (Source: Student Doctor Network)
