Corps Chief to SLs: we don't need you
So...heard a rumor that a bunch of Navy specialties have been told they are getting the axe. The GI SL apparently passed on that the new end strength will be 4 GIs. Similar news for other specialties. Troops on the ground, what say you??? Is this real? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Urgent help !!
I am an final year international medical student, willing to pursue IM residency. My quick question is which one is better: 1. Total 2700$ for 8 weeks - to work with a cardiologist and a gastroenterologist at a private clinic 4 weeks each- total 8 weeks. 2. 5250$ for 8 weeks to work at FIU, Miami. I am getting hands on at both clinic and FIU, so is it worth spending extra 2500$ on FIU. As far as I know both are considered USCE. Note again I am still a student and not a graduate.... Multiple Publications
Hello everyone, I am currently a junior and I have 5 publications and 4 abstracts accepted into journals, (also a few poster presentations, but I did not present, my name was just on the poster.) I have research experience from 3 different places. One is clinical research at a university hospital (gastroenterology department) (my 5 papers are from here) and two basic science (biological) labs one at the same hospital (rheumatology department) and one on my undergraduate campus (biology... Bariatric surgery lifestyle
MS-III here interested in gen surg. Just curious, what are the hours like for a bariatric surgeon? I know a lot of normal surgeons do gastric sleeves and roux-en-y's, just curious if any full time bariatric surgeons could comment on their lifestyle. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Mayo Vs. University of Minnesota
I graduated from McGill. Dual US and Canadian citizenships. I have family in MN and would like to match in either programs. I do not have a preference in terms of cities, as my folks live in an equidistant town to both. My aim is gastroenterology (not interested in anything else really) Which of the two programs offers better training and fellowship placement in your opinion? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Will medicine ever become boring ?
Ive shadowed lots of types of physicians, and it seems cool with all the variety but now that I realize as you chose a specialty it probably gets repetetive. The gastric surgeon I shadowed was doing mainly hernia repairs and colon cancer excisions on a daily basis Intervention cardiologist was pacemakers with a few other procedures but mainly pacemakers Internal medicine was primarily dealing with checkups and physicals, in the hospital the standard stuff. When you look at it as a whole... Will medicine ever become boring ? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Passive dorsiflexion and plantar flexion?
Hey, I don't understand the mechanism behind passive dorsiflexion and plantar flexion at all. I can read that "In passive dorsiflexion in the anke joint, the muscles ventrally of the movement axis will relax and those dorsally of the axis will contract". That does not make any sense. If tibialis anterior relaxes (ventrally), then gastrocnemius (dorsally) will contract? That would give a plantar flexion and not a dorsiflexion. I'm seriously confused. New fellow - am I doing it wrong?
Hi guys, I am a new hem/onc fellow. My co-fellow is upset with how the team is running. Hence I came here for advice. So I'm on benign heme month with a 2nd year fellow and residents. I am just proactive and reach out to all the residents to go over their plans, make sure their presentations are good. I also call in smears and look at them myself or with the residents and present the findings to the attending. I also created a group mail where I email out important articles relevant to...
