Is it more difficult for osteopathic residents to get into competitive medicine fellowships than...
allopaths? The only reason why I'm asking is because I've never seen a DO cardiologist, hem/onc, or gastroenterologist. I'm wondering if the "DO" title follows you all the way even into residency. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

List the Hypersensitivities
Hey sdn, I learn a ton just by reading these forums so I just wanted to start a thread where we each list a hypersensitivity (please reference) and we'll learn as we go. I'll start Chronic gastritis/pernicious anemia - type 4 HS (pathoma pg 104, sec V.C.2.iii.) P.S. please try to list a HS that is unexpected. For example, dont list goodpastures, type 2 (we all know that one). Hope this helps everyone. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

CT abdomen IV contrast vs IV & oral contrast
THis is a question I had been wondering about... When do you guys order IV and oral contrast for a abdominal CT scan? In other words, when would you definitely add oral contrast? From what I understand IV contrast is sufficient for things like diverticulitis, colitis. At my shop, IV contrast ONLY is sufficient for the following: BMI > 20 Age > 25 No history of GI tract altering surgery (e.g. gastric bypass) No history or suspicion of inflammatory bowel disease No abdominal or pelvic surgery... Pediatric Gastroenterology Fellowship Application
Newly matched 4th year to a program in the Western part of the country, highly interested in pediatric GI. Since this like a lot of peds fellowships is a December application cycle that is sooner rather than later and in true neurotic SDN fashion: How many programs on average do most people apply to? I'm a US grad, average step scores matched to a mid-tier pediatric residency. I see on the NRMP outcomes that if you're a US grad you're basically fine (48 applying, 44 matching) but I just... How easy is it for a DO to get a fellowship after an Internal Medicine residency?
I know IM lets you specialize and get a fellowship in a variety of specialties such as cardiology, pulmonology, oncology, rheumatology, ID, endocrinology, gastroenterology, hematology etc... How accessible are these for a DO? Do most IM DOs go on to specialize or do they just stick with practicing general IM? After completing an IM residency are MDs and DOs on relatively equal footing? I really think I'd like to pursue oncology but am not sure what sorts of odds I have of that actually... How easy is it for a DO to get a fellowship after an Internal Medicine residency?
