Virtual Colonoscopy
Does the neccesarily have to remain the domain of radiologist or will gastroenterologist be able to perform and interpert Virtual Colonoscopies? I don't see why not but there's alot I don't know so I was just curious as to who regulates who can interpert these types of tests. Seems like it would make more senes for the Gastroenterologist to do it so that if there is a poly they can remove it with a scope. Not sure what radiologist would do then..refer them to the gastroenterologist ? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Please help! Possibe CF? Sweat test needed after rectal prolapse in 2 1/2 year old
Hello, This is my very first time posting here. I never thought I would find myself posing questions in regard to CF and my children, as I thought any fear of CF would have been completely put to rest by my prenatal testing and newborn screening. Apparently, as I am learning, this is not always the case. I just got back a little while ago from an over night stay at a children's hospital following my daughter's first experience with rectal prolapse. After speaking with the gastroenterologist at the end of her 24 hour observation period, I learned that it is protocol to send children her age with rectal prolapse for a s...

the recalls we never learn about!
So a couple weeks past when getting a new delivery of drink supplement the coordinator discovered that there was a recall covering the product we had, but thankfully it wasn't the lot we had at home. From our discussion it sounded like medical supplies etc are usually handled from the suppliers and thus not published more broadly, so I went to fda.gov to request email updates of various recalls in the event. A couple days ago the following came through. This looks like it's been an issue for years and who knows what the hospitals/clinics are doing. Augh. Interesting new clinical trial for 661/Kalydeco
Was checking to see if next generation details were at clinicaltrials.gov and didn't find but discovered this study, which I hadn't been aware of: https://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/...lmonary&rank=1 It is a small study for 661/Kalydeco, not the Phase 3 for homozygotes going on now, but a Phase 2 looking at "extrapulmonary systems." Primary end point is mucociliary clearance, and secondary endpoints include (beyond FEV), change in gastrointestinal pH, change in sweat chloride, change in nasal potential difference. This is interesting to me because the FDA at the Orcambi discussed (if I recall correctly) t...

Mystery illness - seeking opinions
Hi! I guess I am just looking for opinions on whether or not I should seek CF testing. I'm sorry this is so long! Thank you in advance to anyone who can offer some advice. I've been "sick" on and off for a few years now. As a child I had strep throat A LOT until my tonsils were removed. I was also suspected to have asthma. I don't know how it was decided I didn't. I cleared my throat absolutely constantly but to my knowledge this was not investigated. As a preteen I had a heart murmur that apparently went away and had a couple fainting episodes and was diagnosed with syncope. I was pretty healthy through my t...

Anyone started IV antibiotics instead of orals for their first ever infection?
I was wondering if any of you were ever put on IV antibiotics for your first infection? My daughter is 4 years old, was diagnosed with CF at birth by newborn screening and has been very healthy since. She recently started coughing (about a month ago) and her doctor insisted on doing a sputum culture before prescribing her anything. It was a very hard couple of weeks trying to teach her how to cough sputum and then finally we were able to do it. She cultured Hemophilus Influenzae and her doctor immediately wanted to admit her and give her IV's for 10-14 days (she also developed a low grade fever 2 days prior to the culture...
