National and International Comparisons of Gynecological Research in Germany Based on a Bibliometric Analysis of Publications
CONCLUSION: For the German Society of Gynecology and Obstetrics, the results suggest a number of approaches to promote young researchers. The support provided to young female doctors is especially important as this should help to retain them as junior researchers over the long term.PMID:38618578 | PMC:PMC11006559 | DOI:10.1055/a-2200-4122 (Source: Geburtshilfe und Frauenheilkunde)

Electrical impedance measurements can identify red blood cell-rich content in acute ischemic stroke clots < em > ex vivo < /em > associated with first-pass successful recanalization
CONCLUSION: Electrical impedance estimations of RBC content in AIS clots are consistent with histologic findings and may have potential for clinically relevant parameters.PMID:38617048 | PMC:PMC11015511 | DOI:10.1016/j.rpth.2024.102373 (Source: Thrombosis and Haemostasis)

Complications of ultrasound guided very small-bore chest drains for pleural effusions of different etiology
CONCLUSIONS: A single small-bore chest drain (6-10 F) was successful in the vast majority of simple PEs, but had high complication rates in empyema with frequent need of additional drains or surgery. These findings support use of larger drains and early consultation with a thoracic surgeon in empyema.PMID:38617756 | PMC:PMC11009582 | DOI:10.21037/jtd-23-1457 (Source: Journal of Thoracic Disease)

Viruses, Vol. 16, Pages 614: Evaluation of a Revised Point-of-Care Test for the Detection of Feline Leukaemia p27 Antigen and Anti-p15E Antibodies in Cats
This study aimed to assess this PoC test’s performance concerning FeLV p27 antigen and FeLV anti-p15E antibody detection. Sensitivity, specificity, positive and negative predictive values (PPV, NPV) were assessed after ten minutes (recommended) and 20 min (prolonged) incubation times. The test results were evaluated as either positive or negative. Serum samples from 934 cats were included, originating from Italy (n = 269), Portugal (n = 240), Germany (n = 318), and France (n = 107). FeLV p27 antigen and anti-p15E antibodies were measured by reference standard ELISAs and compared to the PoC test results. The P...

Molecules, Vol. 29, Pages 1794: No Evidence Was Found for the Presence of Terreolides, Terreumols or Saponaceolides H-S in the Fruiting Bodies of Tricholoma terreum (Basidiomycota, Agaricales)
idari Two different collections of the gilled wild fungus Tricholoma terreum, collected in Italy, were subjected to phytochemical analysis. The fungal material was confidently identified by analysis of the ITS genomic sequences. Using both HR-LC-MS and NMR techniques, no evidence was found for the presence in the fruiting bodies of terreolides, terreumols or saponaceolides H-S, in striking contrast with the isolation of these terpenoids by Chinese authors from a mushroom collected in France and identified as T. terreum. The main cytotoxic terpenoid identified and isolated from the extracts of the specimens investigated...

Artificial intelligence-based prediction of diabetic retinopathy evolution (EviRed): protocol for a prospective cohort
Introduction An important obstacle in the fight against diabetic retinopathy (DR) is the use of a classification system based on old imaging techniques and insufficient data to accurately predict its evolution. New imaging techniques generate new valuable data, but we lack an adapted classification based on these data. The main objective of the Evaluation Intelligente de la Rétinopathie Diabétique, Intelligent evaluation of DR (EviRed) project is to develop and validate a system assisting the ophthalmologist in decision-making during DR follow-up by improving the prediction of its evolution. Methods and anal...
