COVID-19 Vaccine Injury Compensation Program: Lessons Learned From a Review of 10 Implementing Countries
This article reviewed the Vaccine Injury Compensation Programs in 10 major countries to present implications for improving the Korean system. Expanding the scope of national accountability is essential to compensate for the consequences of adhering to national policies during public health crises. Therefore, valuable insight can be obtained from examining the systems in Germany, Japan, and Taiwan, which have implemented more relaxed criteria for determining causality in compensation cases; Thailand's system, which provides the mandatory payment of preliminary compensation for damage caused by vaccination; systems in German...

Occupational exposure to organic solvents and the risk of developing testicular germ cell tumors (TESTIS study): Effect of combined exposure assessment on risk estimation
Conclusion The results suggest that some organic solvents might be involved in the pathogenesis of TGCT among occupationally exposed men. The combined use of JEM+SQ+EA seemed to limit misclassification by considering individual exposure variability and is, therefore, an appealing approach to assess occupational exposures in epidemiological studies. by Guth M, Pilorget C, Lefevre M, Coste A, Danjou A, Dananché B, Praud D, Pérol O, Daudin M, Clarotti M-A, Lattes S, Bouillon C, Paul A, Schüz J, Bujan L, Olsson A, Fervers B, Charbotel B, The TESTIS study group. doi:10.5271/sjweh.4153 (Source: Scandinavian Journal of Wo...

IJERPH, Vol. 21, Pages 463: Sustainability Planning for a Community Network to Increase Participation in Evidence-Based Lifestyle Change Programs: A Mixed-Methods Approach
This study used a mixed-methods, partner-engaged approach to identify barriers and facilitators to sustaining a community network (the Alliance program) aimed to increase participation in evidence-based lifestyle change programs delivered in the community. Surveys and qualitative interviews were conducted with the Alliance partners based on the Program Sustainability Assessment Tool and Consolidated Framework for Implementation Research. Overall, partners felt Alliance had a high capacity for sustainability. Strategic planning, communication, and partnerships were areas partners prioritized to improve the potential for sus...

Prevalence, genetic diversity and eco-epidemiology of pathogenic < i > Leptospira < /i > species in small mammal communities in urban parks Lyon city, France
by Marta Garcia-Lopez, Thibaut Lurier, Marie Bouilloud, Julien Pradel, Caroline Tatard, Diana Sepulveda, Gwendoline Anfray, Julie Dussert, Pascale Bourhy, Nathalie Charbonnel, Zouheira Djelouadji Rodents are recognized as the main reservoirs ofLeptospira spp. Rats, in particular, serve as hosts for the widely predominantLeptospira interrogans serovar Icterohaemorrhagiae, found worldwide. Several studies have shown the importance of other reservoirs, such as mice or hedgehogs, which harbor other leptospires ’ serovars. Nevertheless, our knowledge of circulatingLeptospira spp. in reservoirs other than rats remains limited...

Severe leptospirosis in tropical and non-tropical areas: A comparison of two french, multicentre, retrospective cohorts
by J érôme Allyn, Arnaud-Félix Miailhe, Benjamin Delmas, Lucas Marti, Nicolas Allou, Julien Jabot, Jean Reignier BackgroundLeptospirosis is an anthropozoonosis that occurs worldwide but is more common in tropical regions. Severe forms may require intensive care unit (ICU) admission. Whether the clinical patterns and outcomes differ between tropical and non-tropical regions with similar healthcare systems is unclear. Our objective here was to address this issue by comparing two cohorts of ICU patients with leptospirosis managed in mainland France and in the overseas French department of R éunion, respectively. Methodolo...

Oncologists ’ perspective on advance directives, a French national prospective cross-sectional survey – the ADORE study
The often poor prognosis associated with cancer necessitates empowering patients to express their care preferences. Yet, the prevalence of Advance Directives (AD) among oncology patients remains low. This stud... (Source: BMC Medical Ethics)

Inhaled bronchodilators for the prevention and treatment of chronic lung disease in preterm infants
CONCLUSIONS: Low-certainty evidence from one trial showed that inhaled bronchodilator prophylaxis may result in little or no difference in the incidence of mortality or CLD in preterm infants, when compared to placebo. The evidence is very uncertain about the effect of salbutamol on pneumothorax, and neither included study reported on the incidence of serious adverse effects. We identified no trials that studied the use of bronchodilator therapy for the treatment of CLD. Additional clinical trials are necessary to assess the role of bronchodilator agents in the prophylaxis or treatment of CLD. Researchers studying the effe...

Health-related quality of life in patients with conditions affecting the hand: meta-analysis
CONCLUSION: Pooled utility estimates for patients with untreated carpal tunnel syndrome and hand osteoarthritis are 11% and 18% lower than age-matched population norms respectively. Hand conditions have a significant detrimental impact on health-related quality of life and this study provides catalogued utility values for use in future economic analyses to support the delivery of value-based hand surgery.PMID:38593043 | DOI:10.1093/bjs/znae067 (Source: The British Journal of Surgery)

Cardiogenic shock and chronic kidney disease: Dangerous liaisons
CONCLUSIONS: Cardiogenic shock and CKD are frequent "cross-talking" conditions with limited therapeutic options, resulting in higher rates of death at 1month and 1year. RRT is a strong predictor of death, regardless of preexisting CKD. Multidisciplinary teams involving cardiac and kidney physicians are required to provide integrated care for patients with failure of both organs.PMID:38594150 | DOI:10.1016/j.acvd.2024.01.006 (Source: Archives of Cardiovascular Diseases)
