Effects of Recreational Cannabis Legalization on Mental Health: Scoping Review
CONCLUSIONS: Clinicians, researchers, and policy makers need to collaborate to address the research gaps and to develop evidence-based policies that reflect a thorough understanding of the effects associated with RCL.PMID:38650490 | DOI:10.1176/appi.ps.20230434 (Source: Psychiatric Services)

Discordance between pain specialists and patients on the perception of dependence on pain medication: A multi-centre cross-sectional study
CONCLUSION: Medical shared-decision for changing pain treatment could be improved by taking into account the perception of patient dependence on medications for pain relief and or psychoactive effects, particularly in nociplastic pain for which the treatment is challenging.PMID:38653623 | DOI:10.1016/j.therap.2024.01.008 (Source: Pain Physician)

"The least significant change on bone mineral density scan increased in patients with higher degrees of obesity"
CONCLUSION: LSC of 0.05 g/cm² could be used in clinical practice in patients with class 2 or 3 obesity. These findings should help to improve the interpretation of BMD scans in these patients and optimize their management.TRIAL REGISTRATION NUMBER: Comité de Protection des Personnes Ile-de France VII, France.PMID:38652346 | PMC:PMC11039528 | DOI:10.1007/s40520-024-02736-4 (Source: Aging Clinical and Experimental Research)

Adverse events in biologics for severe asthma
CONCLUSION: Biologics for severe asthma are recent drugs with a favorable safety profile, but with little real-life experience, justifying increased vigilance by prescribing physicians.PMID:38653607 | DOI:10.1016/j.rmr.2024.04.001 (Source: Revue des Maladies Respiratoires)

A machine learning approach to predict mortality due to immune-mediated thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura
CONCLUSION: The USTMA Mortality Index was acceptable for predicting mortality due to acute iTTP in the USTMA registry, but not sensitive enough to rule out death. Identifying patients at high risk of iTTP-related mortality may help individualize care and ultimately improve iTTP survival outcomes. Further studies are needed to provide external validation. Our model is one of many recent examples where machine learning models may show promise in clinical prediction tools in healthcare.PMID:38651093 | PMC:PMC11033197 | DOI:10.1016/j.rpth.2024.102388 (Source: Thrombosis and Haemostasis)
