Methicillin-Resistant < em > Staphylococcus aureus < /em > Carriage among Neonate Mothers, Healthcare Workers, and Environmental Samples in Neonatal Intensive Care Units: A Systematic Review
CONCLUSION: With a significant heterogeneity, our systematic review found high MRSA carriage rates in neonate mothers, healthcare workers, and across various environmental surfaces in NICUs, posing a potential risk of nosocomial infections. Urgent interventions, including regular screening and decolonization of MRSA carriers, reinforcing infection control measures, and enhancing cleaning and disinfection procedures within NICUs, are crucial. This trial is registered with CRD42023407114.PMID:38623471 | PMC:PMC11018372 | DOI:10.1155/2024/5675786 (Source: Biomed Res)

Infant feeding practices and body mass index up to 7.5  years in the French nationwide ELFE study
ConclusionBreastfeeding was related with a lower BMI in infancy but not thereafter, whereas an early CF initiation (<4  months) was associated with a higher BMI in childhood. (Source: Pediatric Obesity)

Researchers need ‘open’ bibliographic databases, new declaration says
When universities are deciding whom to hire and promote, or grant organizations are selecting projects to fund, there’s a good chance they’re referencing more than just the application materials. Many organizations rely on databases that compile publication information including authors, affiliations, citations, and funding sources to create metrics meant to quantify a researcher’s productivity and the quality of their work. Some of the best known databases, such as the Web of Science and Scopus, are proprietary and offer pay-to-access data and services supporting these and other metrics, including university r...

Ethical and social implications of public–private partnerships in the context of genomic/big health data collection
In conclusion, this paper offers a set of minimum requirements for these partnerships within solidarity-based publicly funded healthcare systems. These include the necessity of public-private partnerships to (1) contribute to the public benefit and minimise harm produced by the use of publicly held data; (2) avoid prioritisation of commercial interests over robust governance structures to guarantee benefits to the public and protect donors, especially marginalised groups; (3) side-step the pitfalls of the rhetoric of solidarity and be transparent about the challenges to return the benefits to ‘all’. Design, cohort profile and comparison of the KTD-Innov study: a prospective multidimensional biomarker validation study in kidney allograft rejection
AbstractThere is an unmet need for robust and clinically validated biomarkers of kidney allograft rejection. Here we present the KTD-Innov study  (ClinicalTrials.gov, NCT03582436), an unselected deeply phenotyped cohort of kidney transplant recipients with a holistic approach to validate the clinical utility of precision diagnostic biomarkers. In 2018–2019, we prospectively enrolled consecutive adult patients who received a kidney allogr aft at seven French centers and followed them for a year. We performed multimodal phenotyping at follow-up visits, by collecting clinical, biological, immunological, and histological p...

A multicentric randomized controlled phase III trial of adaptive and 18F-FDG-PET-guided dose-redistribution in locally advanced head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (ARTFORCE)
More than half of the patients with head and neck squamous cell carcinomas (HNSCC) are diagnosed at a locally advanced stage (LA) [1]. The standard of care for LAHNSCC treatment is concurrent chemoradiation with curative intent. Although this locoregionally targeted therapy is effective in the majority of patients, locoregional recurrences are four-fold more common than metastases [2]. (Source: Radiotherapy and Oncology)

Impact of benzodiazepine use on the risk of occupational accidents
The objective of this study is to estimate this risk by differentia ting between the recommended use and overuse of these drugs (i.e., uninterrupted use for four months). The data come from the French National Health Data System, which provide a population composed of French people who had at least one work accident (WA) from 2017 to 2019 (approximately 2.5 million people). A linear probability model with two-way fixed effects is used to deal with time-constant heterogeneity and the time effect independent of individuals. The results show a reduction in the risk of WA after a short period of BZD use (one month) compared wi...

Neutralizing IFN-γ autoantibodies are rare and pathogenic in HLA-DRB1*15:02 or 16:02 individuals
CONCLUSION These findings suggest that nAIGAs are isolated and that their penetrance in HLA-DRB1*15:02 or 16:02 individuals is low, implying that they may be triggered by rare germline or somatic variants. In contrast, the risk of mycobacterial disease in patients with nAIGAs is high, confirming that these nAIGAs are the cause of EM disease.FUNDING The Laboratory of Human Genetics of Infectious Diseases is supported by the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, the Rockefeller University, the St. Giles Foundation, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) (R01AI095983 and U19AIN1625568), the National Center for Advancing Translati...

National and International Comparisons of Gynecological Research in Germany Based on a Bibliometric Analysis of Publications
CONCLUSION: For the German Society of Gynecology and Obstetrics, the results suggest a number of approaches to promote young researchers. The support provided to young female doctors is especially important as this should help to retain them as junior researchers over the long term.PMID:38618578 | PMC:PMC11006559 | DOI:10.1055/a-2200-4122 (Source: Geburtshilfe und Frauenheilkunde)

Complications of ultrasound guided very small-bore chest drains for pleural effusions of different etiology
CONCLUSIONS: A single small-bore chest drain (6-10 F) was successful in the vast majority of simple PEs, but had high complication rates in empyema with frequent need of additional drains or surgery. These findings support use of larger drains and early consultation with a thoracic surgeon in empyema.PMID:38617756 | PMC:PMC11009582 | DOI:10.21037/jtd-23-1457 (Source: Journal of Thoracic Disease)
