Single-Session Cerebellar Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation Improves Postural Stability and Reduces Ataxia Symptoms in Spinocerebellar Ataxia
In conclusion, our study suggests that a single session of ctDCS, in combination with postural training, can enhance balance and alleviate ataxia symptoms in individuals with cerebellar ataxia. 14 ‐month‐old infants detect a semantic mismatch when occluded objects are mislabeled
AbstractWhen infants start mastering their first language, they may start to notice when words are used incorrectly. Around 14-months of age, infants detect incorrect labeling when they are presented with an object which is labeled while still visible. However, things that are referred to are often out of sight when we communicate about them. The present study examined infants' detection of semantic mismatch when the object was occluded at the time of labeling. Specifically, we investigated whether mislabeling that referred to an occluded object could elicit a semantic mismatch. We showed 14-month-old Danish-speaking infan...

Diagnosis and treatment intraorbital foreign body: A case report
Key Clinical MessageWooden foreign bodies inside the eye socket are an uncommon kind of eye injury that falls into a distinct category of intraorbital foreign bodies. Due to the wide range of clinical presentations and imaging features of intraorbital wooden foreign bodies, misinterpretation and failure to diagnose correctly often happen.AbstractWooden foreign bodies inside the eye socket are an uncommon kind of eye injury that falls into a distinct category of intraorbital foreign bodies. The condition mostly manifested in individuals of youthful and middle age. Due to the wide range of clinical presentations and imaging ...

Protocol for a randomised controlled trial of ketamine versus ketamine and behavioural activation therapy for adults with treatment-resistant depression in the community
Introduction Although short-term benefits follow parenteral ketamine for treatment-resistant major depressive disorder (TR-MDD), there are challenges that prevent routine use of ketamine by clinicians. These include acute dissociative effects of parenteral ketamine, high relapse rates following ketamine dosing and the uncertain role of psychotherapy. This randomised controlled trial (RCT) seeks to establish the feasibility of evaluating repeated oral doses of ketamine and behavioural activation therapy (BAT), compared with ketamine treatment alone, for TR-MDD. We also aim to compare relapse rates between treatment arms to ...

Masticatory-Induced Ocular Task-Specific Dystonia
Background: Task-specific dystonia (TSD) refers to a subset of focal dystonia that targets isolated body parts and is elicited by specific tasks, often emerging in regions engaged in highly skilled and repetitive activities. This condition is common among writers, musicians, dancers and athletes. Previous studies have demonstrated many rare cases. Here, we report the first task-specific dystonia presenting with ocular dystonia —only chewing precipitated focal dystonia (especially when the gaze was directed downward with both eyes), with a significant therapeutic effect on oral medication. Molecules, Vol. 29, Pages 2086: Benchtop NMR Coupled with Chemometrics: A Workflow for Unveiling Hidden Drug Ingredients in Honey-Based Supplements
This study presents an innovative approach to leveraging a compact benchtop NMR spectrometer coupled with chemometrics for screening honey-based food supplements adulterated with active pharmaceutical ingredients. Initially, fifty samples seized by French customs were analyzed using a 60 MHz benchtop spectrometer. The investigation unveiled the presence of tadalafil in 37 samples, sildenafil in 5 samples, and a combination of flibanserin with tadalafil in 1 sample. After conducting comprehensive qualitative and quantitative characterization of the samples, we propose a chemometric workflow to provide an efficient screening...

Effect of isoflurane anaesthetic time on ocular a-scan ultrasonography measures and their relationship to age and OCT measures in the guinea pig
This study shows that the depth of ocular components can change dramatically with anaesthesia. Researchers should therefore be wary of these concomitant effects and should employ adjustments to better render 'true' values.PMID:38685338 | DOI:10.1016/j.exer.2024.109914 (Source: Experimental Eye Research)

Advanced intraocular retinoblastoma: evolving criteria for group E disease (1)
Can J Ophthalmol. 2024 Apr 27:S0008-4182(24)00068-1. doi: 10.1016/j.jcjo.2024.03.005. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTWith evolving criteria for classifying intraocular retinoblastoma (RB) from International Intraocular Retinoblastoma Classification (IIRC, 2005) to International Classification of Retinoblastoma (ICRB, 2006), there have been changes in the inclusion criteria for groups E eyes that have not been widely recognized. This brief review highlights issues with the current classification systems (ICRB and IIRC) and layouts a theoretical framework arguing for merging of 2 existing classifications into 1 and subdividin...

Delayed infections following polybutylate-coated polyester (Ethibond) suture frontalis suspension surgery for severe blepharoptosis
CONCLUSION: Frontalis suspension with Ethibond has an 8% incidence of delayed infections, with Staphylococcus aureus as the most common organism. Eye movements reinstate remembered locations during episodic simulation
Cognition. 2024 Apr 29;248:105807. doi: 10.1016/j.cognition.2024.105807. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTImagining the future, like recalling the past, relies on the ability to retrieve and imagine a spatial context. Research suggests that eye movements support this process by reactivating spatial contextual details from memory, a process termed gaze reinstatement. While gaze reinstatement has been linked to successful memory retrieval, it remains unclear whether it supports the related process of future simulation. In the present study, we recorded both eye movements and audio while participants described familiar locations...
