The Effect of Yoga on Intraocular Pressure Using the "iCare HOME2" Tonometer
CONCLUSION: Our data show that common yoga positions can lead to an acute IOP elevation of up to 31 mmHg in healthy as well as glaucoma eyes, with higher IOP values during head-down positions. Given that IOP peaks are a major risk factor for glaucomatous optic neuropathy, we generally advise glaucoma patients to carefully choose their yoga exercises. If and to what extent practicing yoga leads to glaucoma progression, however, remains unclear and warrants further research.PMID:38653289 | DOI:10.1055/a-2200-3970 (Source: Klinische Monatsblatter fur Augenheilkunde)

Real-World Clinical Results with the Hoya Vivinex Impress Intraocular Lens with Enhanced Depth of Focus
CONCLUSION: Cataract surgery with Hoya Vivinex Impress IOL implantation revealed good distance and intermediate vision and, in some patients, functional near vision as well as a high patient satisfaction.PMID:38653291 | DOI:10.1055/a-2220-0620 (Source: Klinische Monatsblatter fur Augenheilkunde)

A Novel Technique of Aseptic Manufacture of Autologous Serum Eye Drops (ASEDs) and Sterility Analysis of the Bottled Ophtioles
CONCLUSIONS: The combination of upstream sterile filtration with a commercial closed system for manufacturing ASEDs proved to be effective in ensuring sterility without any contamination over the past 4 years. This is becoming crucial, as the demand for autologous blood products for treating ocular surface disorders, such as refractory dry eyes or nonhealing defects of the corneal epithelium, is on the rise.PMID:38653293 | DOI:10.1055/a-2249-0056 (Source: Klinische Monatsblatter fur Augenheilkunde)

Evaluation of Increase in Retinal Thickness as Diagnostic Marker in Central Artery Occlusion
CONCLUSION: Central retinal artery occlusion is associated with severe vision loss. There is no current established therapy. Parameters that objectify the presence of a therapeutic window for thrombolysis are gaining in importance as patient history is often imprecise. Relative retinal thickness increase proved a noninvasive imaging parameter demonstrating adequate performance in detecting patients within the therapeutic window of thrombolysis. Further investigation of this parameter in central retinal occlusion is warranted.PMID:38653296 | DOI:10.1055/a-2239-0526 (Source: Klinische Monatsblatter fur Augenheilkunde)

Silicone Oil Tamponade for Therapy of Primary Retinal Detachment in Patients Who Live at High Altitudes
CONCLUSION: PPV with SO injection seems to be a safe and efficient surgical approach in the treatment of primary uncomplicated RRD in patients living at high altitudes and was associated with good anatomical and functional outcome in our series. However, the need for a follow-up surgery to remove SO should be weighed in these cases.PMID:38653297 | DOI:10.1055/a-2233-0971 (Source: Klinische Monatsblatter fur Augenheilkunde)

Ophthalmological Outcomes in Patients with Susac Syndrome
CONCLUSION: Susac syndrome is a rare autoimmune vascular endotheliopathy. Treatment of Susac syndrome appears to result in improving CAS and CDVA. The majority of patients, in addition to the systemic steroids, required systemic immunosuppressive agents. Interdisciplinary communication is crucial to reduce the time to diagnosis and initiation of therapy in patients with Susac syndrome.PMID:38653298 | DOI:10.1055/a-2243-4913 (Source: Klinische Monatsblatter fur Augenheilkunde)

Efficacy of Subthreshold Micropulse Laser for Central Serous Chorioretinopathy
CONCLUSION: The effectiveness of SML in CSCR is under continuous debate. Our study findings demonstrate structural but only little functional changes with SML. In view of the shortage of verteporfin for photodynamic therapy, SML remains an important therapeutic option for CSCR patients.PMID:38653299 | DOI:10.1055/a-2229-2298 (Source: Klinische Monatsblatter fur Augenheilkunde)

PRESERFLO MicroShunt in Severe Myopia: A Case Report and Review of the Literature
We describe here the case study of a 58-year-old woman who presented with bilateral severe myopia with bilateral advanced POAG and unreached target pressure under quadritherapy, who was successfully managed by PM surgery. A review of the literature completes our observation. At presentation, the patient had a spherical equivalent of - 7.50 RE and - 7.75 LE with an IOP of 22 mmHg right and left eye (RLE) under quadritherapy, and with severe bilateral visual field loss, including scotomas within the central 5°. The patient presented with systemic hypertension treated with an antihypertensive drug. Two selective laser trabec...

Imaging Assessment of Peripapillary Vessel Diameters in Postmortem Eyes
CONCLUSION: To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study to present IR image-based retinal vessel diameters in ex vivo postmortem eyes. Retinal IR/OCT imaging is possible, and measurements are reproducible in formaldehyde-fixated human eyes. Fixation artefacts result in lower image quality, and this can impose challenges in correctly detecting, classifying, and measuring retinal vessels.PMID:38653313 | DOI:10.1055/a-2264-5559 (Source: Klinische Monatsblatter fur Augenheilkunde)

Uveitis-Glaucoma-Hyphema Syndrome Secondary to Implantable Collamer Lens
Conclusion: We present the first published case worldwide about UGH syndrome secondary to ICL. This is an unusual complication, and measures can be taken to avoid it. This provides evidence of the importance of postoperative follow-up by the surgeon and appropriate work-up when such cases are suspected.PMID:38652606 | DOI:10.1080/09273948.2024.2342386 (Source: Ocular Immunology and Inflammation)

Adalimumab Dose Reduction and Withdrawal in Stable Non-Infectious Pediatric Uveitis: An Open-Label, Prospective, Pilot Study
CONCLUSIONS: In PNIU children who reached remission for 6 months, ADA dose reduction and withdrawal were associated with a high risk of inflammation recurrence. Timely adjustment of ADA to the last effective dosage frequency can regain control of the inflammation. Detection of ADA serum levels in patients with recurrence may help find the appropriate interval of ADA use.PMID:38652891 | DOI:10.1080/09273948.2024.2343084 (Source: Ocular Immunology and Inflammation)

Integrated machine learning and multimodal data fusion for patho-phenotypic feature recognition in iPSC models of dilated cardiomyopathy
Biol Chem. 2024 Apr 24. doi: 10.1515/hsz-2024-0023. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTIntegration of multiple data sources presents a challenge for accurate prediction of molecular patho-phenotypic features in automated analysis of data from human model systems. Here, we applied a machine learning-based data integration to distinguish patho-phenotypic features at the subcellular level for dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM). We employed a human induced pluripotent stem cell-derived cardiomyocyte (iPSC-CM) model of a DCM mutation in the sarcomere protein troponin T (TnT), TnT-R141W, compared to isogenic healthy (WT) control iPSC-CMs. ...
