Correlation of udder thermogram and somatic cell counts as a tool for detection of subclinical mastitis in buffaloes
This study aimed to monitor the mammary health of 37 multiparous Murrah buffaloes through infrared thermography (IRT). Based on the California Mastitis Test (CMT) and milk somatic cell counts (SCC), buffaloes were grouped into healthy (H,n = 16), subclinical mastitis (SCM,n = 10), and clinical mastitis (CM,n = 11). Buffaloes were milked twice daily in the morning (5:00–6:00 AM) and evening (5:00–6:00 PM). Rectal temperature and respiratory rates were recorded, CMT was performed and thermal images of the mammary gland of all the buffaloes were taken before and after each milking. Milk samples we re analysed ...

miR-199a-5p modulates choroidal neovascularization by regulating Wnt7b/Wnt/ β-catenin signaling pathway
In conclusion, overexpression of miR-199a-5p inhibited t he angiogenesis of HRMEC by regulating Wnt7b/Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway, which may serve as a promising therapy target of CNV. (Source: Journal of Molecular Histology)

Synergistic immunomodulatory effect of synbiotics pre- and postoperative resection of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma: a randomized controlled study
AbstractPancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is an aggressive cancer with a highly immunosuppressive microenvironment. This single-blind, randomized study aimed to evaluate the synergistic immunomodulatory effects of synbiotics (probiotics and inulin prebiotics), as well as their impact on postoperative complications and outcomes, compared to the use of probiotics alone. Ninety patients diagnosed with PDAC were enrolled and randomly assigned into three groups: the placebo group, the probiotics group (receiving a mixture of ten strains of Lactobacillus, Bifidobacterium, and Streptococcus bacteria at a dose of 25 billion ...

IDF/IAPB release joint policy brief for the early diagnosis, treatment and prevention of diabetic retinopathy
The International Diabetes Federation (IDF) and The International Alliance for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB) have launched a new policy brief that calls for a joint approach to prevent and manage vision loss in people living with diabetes by integrating diabetic retinopathy (DR) care into diabetes policies and national health plans. Idiopathic intracranial hypertension associated with SARS-CoV-2 infection in an adult male patient: a case report and review of the literature
ConclusionIdiopathic intracranial hypertension (IIH) may occur in association with SARS-CoV-2 infection and should be considered when making a differential diagnosis for headache and blurring of vision. COVID-19 may play a role in the development of intracranial hypertension, even in the absence of known risk factors. Early diagnosis and treatment of IIH has paramount importance to prevent vision loss and other morbidities. (Source: Journal of Medical Case Reports)

Real-life experience on the effectiveness of conjunctival flap and amniotic membrane graft in the treatment of refractory fungal corneal ulcer
ConclusionsCF and AMG are both effective for the management of refractory fungal corneal ulcers. However, AMG appears to improve visual acuity better than CF. (Source: Japanese Journal of Ophthalmology)

Contribution of systemic factors on macular vessel density: a sex-specific population-based study
ConclusionsThis large cross-sectional study shows that older age and type 2 diabetes mellitus are associated with lower superficial and deep retinal capillary vessel density in men. This may help clinicians better understand how systemic factors influence retinal vessel density in different genders and future studies can ascertain more potential sex differences. Couching of cataractous lens in microphthalmic eyes with irido-fundal coloboma: revisiting the historical technique
ConclusionCouching of cataractous lens is an effective and safe method in microphthalmic eyes with irido-fundal coloboma as last resort procedure, where no other surgical procedure may work. It provides an ambulatory gain of visual acuity in previously non-ambulatory subjects. Corneal measurements help in determining the subset of patients where couching offers viable option. Outcomes of iStent inject combined with cataract surgery in Asian eyes: Australian data from the Fight Glaucoma Blindness international registry
ConclusioniStentinject implantation combined with phacoemulsification in Asian eyes showed a reduction of IOP and glaucoma medication use in a real-world clinical setting. The safety profile of the device is good with minimal adverse outcomes, however, a subset of patients required secondary procedures within the 12 month follow up. Advancing Randomized Clinical Trials in Surgery: Role of Exception From Informed Consent, Central Institutional Review Board, and Bayesian Approaches
Designing and completing randomized clinical trials (RCTs) in surgery is especially challenging due to unique barriers in study design, patient recruitment, and the administrative logistics of multicenter collaborative studies.1-5 Surgical interventions are typically more complex to study than pharmacologic interventions, particularly when comparing surgery with a placebo arm and attempting to blind parties to the intervention.3,5-7 Selecting and assessing patient-centered outcomes for surgical trials also pose challenges, and the risks of bias are high. Spectral features related to the auditory perception of twang-like voices
CONCLUSIONS: Based on the intra-rater reliability scores, four judges were identified as suitable to be included in the analyses. Results showed that the frequency of F1 and F2 correlated strongly with the auditory-perception of twang-like voices (0.90 and 0.74, respectively), whereas F3 showed a moderate negative correlation (-0.52). The frequency difference between F1 and F3 showed a strong negative correlation (-0.82). The mean energy between 1-2 kHz and 2-3 kHz correlated moderately (0.51 and 0.42, respectively). The frequency of F4 and F5, and the energy above 3 kHz showed weak correlations. Since the spectral changes...
