BE-WEL trial (breast: evaluation of weight and exercise for lymphoedema) testing weight control and exercise programmes for women with breast cancer related lymphoedema: a feasibility trial
CONCLUSION: Women with BCRL and overweight and obesity engaged in diet and exercise weight loss programmes. Both weight loss/arm exercise programmes led to modest changes in weight and BCRL. Comparable reductions in BCRL were reported in the weight stable group undertaking arm exercise only. The independent and combined effects of weight loss and exercise on BCRL need further study.TRIAL REGISTRATION: ISRCTN86789850 https://doi.org/10.1186/ISRCTN86789850 , registered 2011.PMID:38758461 | DOI:10.1007/s10549-024-07356-0 (Source: Cancer Control)

Mitophagy in health and disease. Molecular mechanisms, regulatory pathways, and therapeutic implications
Apoptosis. 2024 May 17. doi: 10.1007/s10495-024-01977-y. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTMitophagy, a specialised form of autophagy, selectively targeting damaged or dysfunctional mitochondria, and is crucial for maintaining cellular homeostasis and mitochondrial quality control. Dysregulation of mitophagy contributes to various pathological conditions, including cancer, neurodegenerative and cardiovascular diseases. This review presents a comprehensive analysis of the molecular mechanisms, regulatory pathways, and interplay with other cellular processes governing mitophagy, emphasizing its importance in physiological and pa...

Fiber rich food suppressed airway inflammation, GATA3  + Th2 cells, and FcεRIα+ eosinophils in asthma
CONCLUSION: Convalescent preschool asthmatic children after a symptomatic episode have less serum ß-Hydroxybutyric acid as compared to control and asthmatic children at baseline visit. Fiber rich diet associated with anti-inflammatory effects as well as anti-allergic effects by decreasing Type 2 and IgE mediated immune responses and inducing CD8+ memory effector T cells in a murine model of allergic asthma. Finally, ex vivo infection with Rhinovirus (RV) of total lung cells from asthmatic mice fed with fiber rich food led to a decreased RV load as compared to mice fed with standard food. Moreover, spleen cells derived fro...

Construction and Application of a Health Management Program for Patients with Esophageal and Gastric Variceal Hemorrhage after Endoscopic Treatment
CONCLUSION: The implementation of a health management program in esophageal and gastric variceal hemorrhage patients after endoscopic treatment is helpful to improve the clinical effect of endoscopic treatment, reduce the rebleeding rate and varicose veins, and improve the self-management ability and quality of life of patients, which has important clinical significance.PMID:38758139 (Source: Alternative Therapies in Health and Medicine)

Positive correlation of hidradenitis suppurativa and ultra-processed foods consumption
Arch Dermatol Res. 2024 May 17;316(5):172. doi: 10.1007/s00403-024-02947-9.ABSTRACTHidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is a chronic inflammatory skin condition whose pathogenesis is not well established. An association between HS and obesity is suggested but few studies explore specific dietary drivers. Non-Hispanic Blacks have the highest HS prevalence and obesity rates as well as the highest UPFs consumption rates, as opposed to Hispanics who have the lowest prevalence of HS despite having the second highest obesity rates in the US. Instead, Hispanics have the lowest UPFs consumption and highest minimally processed foods consu...

Nano-nutraceuticals to Combat Oxidative Stress: Unlocking Newer Paradigms in Adjuvant Therapy
Curr Top Med Chem. 2024 Apr 27. doi: 10.2174/0115680266300779240417104340. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTNutraceuticals are products that provide both nutritional and therapeutic benefits. These compounds can slow the aging process and provide physiological effects shielding individuals from acute and chronic diseases. People's interests have shifted from allopathic to Ayurvedic to nutraceuticals in recent years. These are often common dietary supplements that have drawn customers worldwide because of their high nutritional safety and lack of adverse effects when used for a long time. Although conventional dosage forms, in...

Heavy Metal Exposure-Induced Cardiovascular Diseases: Molecular Mechanisms and Therapeutic Role of Antioxidants
Curr Med Chem. 2024 May 16. doi: 10.2174/0109298673307446240514064253. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTGlobally, cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are the main cause of mortality every year worldwide. CVD health is influenced by various health factors, such as blood pressure, cholesterol levels, and glucose control. The main risk factors include smoking, physical activity, food intake, and body mass index. Around 90% of CVDs could be prevented by controlling these risk factors. Heavy metals are indigenous to the environment of the earth. However, modern lifestyles have led to the exploitation of our environment by unconstrained...
