Accuracy of the 10 μg desmopressin test for differential diagnosis of Cushing syndrome: a systematic review and meta-analysis
We evaluated the accuracy of the 10 μg desmopressin test in differentiating Cushing disease (CD) from non-neoplastic hypercortisolism (NNH) and ectopic ACTH syndrome (EAS). A systematic review of studies on diagnostic test accuracy in patients with CD, NNH, or EAS subjected to the desmopressin test obtained from LILACS, PubMed, EMBASE, and CENTRAL databases was performed. Two reviewers independently selected the studies, assessed the risk of bias, and extracted the data. Hierarchical and bivariate models on Stata software were used for meta-analytical summaries. The certainty of evidence was measured using the GRADE (Grad...

Evaluation of bone-related mechanical properties in female patients with long-term remission of Cushing's syndrome using quantitative computed tomography-based finite element analysis
CONCLUSIONS: Women with prior hypercortisolism have reduced trabecular vBMD and impaired bone geometrical and mechanical properties, which may contribute to an elevated fracture risk despite long-term remission.PMID:38285633 | DOI:10.1093/ejendo/lvae004 (Source: European Journal of Endocrinology)

Consensus statement by the French Society of Endocrinology (SFE) and French Society of Pediatric Endocrinology & amp; Diabetology (SFEDP) for the diagnosis of Cushing's syndrome: Genetics of Cushing's syndrome
Ann Endocrinol (Paris). 2024 Jan 20:S0003-4266(24)00005-2. doi: 10.1016/j.ando.2024.01.005. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCushing's syndrome is due to overproduction of cortisol, leading to abnormal and prolonged exposure to cortisol. The most common etiology is Cushing disease, while adrenal causes are rarer. Knowledge of the genetics of Cushing's syndrome, and particularly the adrenal causes, has improved considerably over the last 10 years, thanks in particular to technical advances in high-throughput sequencing. The present study, by a group of experts from the French Society of Endocrinology and the French Society of ...

Dyslipidaemia in endocrine disorders
Indian Heart J. 2023 Dec 29:S0019-4832(23)00481-9. doi: 10.1016/j.ihj.2023.12.012. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTLipid disorders are common in several endocrine conditions. Diabetes mellitus, hypothyroidism and Cushing's syndrome are the common endocrine disorders with dyslipidemia. Dyslipidemia has a significant impact on endocrine and metabolic health and the risk of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease. In most cases of dyslipidemia, the suspicion of endocrine diseases must be based on clinical symptoms and signs. Optimal management of the dyslipidemia requires treatment of the underlying endocrine condition. Lipid lo...

Evaluation of psoriasis patients with long-term topical corticosteroids for their risk of developing adrenal insufficiency, Cushing's syndrome and osteoporosis
CONCLUSIONS: Our study is the first study that we know of that investigated these three side effects. We have shown that the development of CS, adrenal insufficiency and osteoporosis in patients who use topical steroids for a long time depends on the weekly TCS dosage and the risk increases when it exceeds the threshold of 50 grams per week. therefore, our recommendation would be to avoid long-term use of superpotent steroids and to choose from the medium-potent group if it is to be used.PMID:38156462 | DOI:10.1080/09546634.2023.2298880 (Source: Journal of Dermatological Treatment)
