A case of celiac plexus block causing iatrogenic Cushing's syndrome
Key Clinical MessageTreatment with corticosteroids can lead to iatrogenic Cushing's syndrome when used for longer intervals and in high doses. Less common administration routes may conceal the exposure, raising the possibility of misdiagnosis and mismanagement. (Source: Clinical Case Reports)

Drug development and potential targets for Cushing's syndrome
Eur J Med Chem. 2024 Mar 22;270:116333. doi: 10.1016/j.ejmech.2024.116333. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCushing's syndrome (CS) is a complex disorder characterized by the excessive secretion of cortisol, with Cushing's disease (CD), particularly associated with pituitary tumors, exhibiting heightened morbidity and mortality. Although transsphenoidal pituitary surgery (TSS) stands as the primary treatment for CD, there is a crucial need to optimize patient prognosis. Current medical therapy serves as an adjunctive measure due to its unsatisfactory efficacy and unpredictable side effects. In this comprehensive review, we de...

The diagnostic yield of inferior petrosal sinus sampling in Cushing syndrome in the era of ovine CRH shortage
ConclusionsWith the current drug shortages in Europe, ACTH measurements without oCRH stimulation in IPSS cannot be recommended. Thus, we call for desmopressin or the commercially available human CRH as a potential alternative in the confirmation of ACTH excess by IPSS in equivocal MRI findings. (Source: Acta Neurochirurgica)

Enhanced chronic inflammation and increased branched chain amino acids in adrenal disorders: a cross-sectional study
CONCLUSION: Patients with functioning and non-functioning adrenal masses demonstrated increased GlycA and BCAA, biomarkers associated with adverse cardiometabolic disorders and mortality. Patients with NFA demonstrated an adverse metabolic profile similar to patients with MACS and CS.PMID:38546526 | DOI:10.1210/clinem/dgae204 (Source: The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism)

Paraneoplastic Syndromes in Neuroendocrine Prostate Cancer: A Systematic Review
Curr Oncol. 2024 Mar 21;31(3):1618-1632. doi: 10.3390/curroncol31030123.ABSTRACTNeuroendocrine prostate cancer (NEPC) is a rare subtype of prostate cancer (PCa) that usually results in poor clinical outcomes and may be accompanied by paraneoplastic syndromes (PNS). NEPC is becoming more frequent. It can initially manifest as PNS, complicating diagnosis. Therefore, we reviewed the literature on the different PNS associated with NEPC. We systematically reviewed English-language articles from January 2017 to September 2023, identifying 17 studies meeting PRISMA guidelines for NEPC and associated PNS. A total of 17 articles we...
