"Manuscript in preparation" for residency applications?
Long story short is I have a few finished projects, manuscripts complete, that are unlikely to see daylight before residency apps this fall due to bureaucratic log jam. Meanwhile, I have 10+ presentations at local, regional, and national conferences. IMO my application will show plenty of research productivity due to the number of presentations, but the idea of not having any peer reviewed papers to show for the work is a concern. How much will this realistically impact my app? Should I... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Neurosurgery conferences
Hey I'm an M2 working my way towards applying to NSG after medical school and one of my mentors told me that presenting research at conferences is important in the match. Would any of my fellow SDN'ers be able to point me in the direction of some NSG conferences I can send my current project to? I know of the big ones (AANS/CNS) but info on any others is much appreciated! (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Poll - Conferences: Any benefit to M1 attendance W/O presentation?
Hey y'all, There is an annual meeting for a highly competitive surgical field (that I keep thinking I might be interested in) scheduled this Spring during a week that wouldn't displace my M1 schedule too much (minimal in-person activities that week, next exam wouldn't be until the following Friday). Registration is free for students, however I'd have to cover airfare and lodging. I worked professionally in clinical research prior to school and attended an annual neurology conference for... How to list abstract publications and presentations?
Hello all, I've had a few abstracts accepted over the last year and presented a few of them as well. In some, I was the first author, and in the rest, I was the 3rd to 5th author. My questions are: Can abstracts be listed as publications on AMCAS? They were accepted at conferences with associated journals and will be published in the journals. Obviously, I will indicate that they are abstracts. Are non-1st authorship abstracts worth listing on AMCAS? For the accepted abstracts... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

How does one put research on a CV for residency purposes?
Title sums it up. I have multiple questions. So I have an abstract that I submitted to a national conference and it got accepted. I am second author on it so I will not be presenting it but a resident/fellow will be presenting instead. However, I have heard this still goes on my CV since it has my name on it. How do I put this on my CV? I know people put abstracts, presentations, and manuscripts in different fields. So let's say this project also got accepted for a publication, how would it... Veterinary Leadership Conference
Hi! Has anyone attended AVMA's veterinary leadership conference? How was the experience? Does it worth for a first-year vet student to go? I am hesitating because I am a first-year without much vet med knowledge and not much of an idea what I want to do in the future. I am just wondering if it would be a better experience for upperclassmen. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Sending update letters?
I interviewed at one of my top choices in early October, and they don't release decisions until early February. I don't really have any updates to provide them with (no new pubs or conferences), but I'm wondering if it's customary to send a letter of interest to let them know I'm still very interested in attending their school. I'm slightly concerned about them forgetting about me lol (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Podium presentation substantial enough for an Update letter?
Hi all, I recently learned that an abstract I submitted was accepted for a podium presentation (1st author) at a large national conference. I've also recently submitted a manuscript for the same project (also as 1st author) to a journal's special edition issue and was told I'll hear back in about a month. Are these substantial enough updates to send to medical schools right now? I'm a current applicant. I wonder if I should wait until after I hear about the manuscript's outcome (hopefully... Serial/Criminal Minds WW - Game Thread
OPENING POST You exit the elevator, ready for another day at work. What do you do exactly? A co-worker stops you on your way to your cubicle. "Hey, the boss said to go straight to the conference room. Where have you been all morning? Check your email." Rolling your eyes, you take a drawn-out swig of your morning beverage of choice. No rest for the wicked. Or so they say. You're a journalist, always seeking the next big story. Regarding serial killers. Your boss works... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Emergency med chances
Good morning everyone, Just wanted to get peoples opinions on my situation. Im a 3rd year medical student who got a 207 on my first attempt for STEP 1 and a 470 on COMLEX. Ive always been interested in EM but now I feel like my chances of matching are slim to none. I am a US DO student. I have a fair amount of research and conference presentations as well as 2 publications. I wanted to see what my chances are for matching into EM. Should I give it up? My back up would be primary care such... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)
