Postoperative wound infection by nontuberculous mycobacteria; case series in Dhaka Medical College Hospital of Bangladesh
Key Clinical MessageThe incidence of nontuberculous mycobacterial (NTM) infections after operations is increasing in Bangladesh but data regarding clinical presentation, diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis after treatment are lacking. In this case series, three patients having persistent serous discharge from incision wound after operation were studied. Discharge from wounds were collected, wet film microscopy was performed for pus cells and fungus, Gram stain, Ziehl-Neelsen (ZN) stain, culture in routine culture media and Lowenstein-Jensen (LJ) media, Xene-Xpert for mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB), polymerase chain react...

Antibiotic resistance of Helicobacter pylori in Nanjing, China: a cross-section study from 2018 to 2023
ConclusionThe extent of antibiotic resistance within H. pylori remains substantial within the Nanjing region. If levofloxacin proves ineffective in eradicating H. pylori during the initial treatment, its use in subsequent treatments is discouraged. The employment of levofloxacin resistance genotype testing can partially substitute conventional antibiotic sensitivity testing. Notably, predicting phenotypic resistance of levofloxacin through PCR requires more attention to the mutation type of gyrA to improve prediction accuracy. When and How Should Resistance Testing Be Performed to Improve H. pylori Eradication?
AbstractPurpose of ReviewTreatment ofHelicobacter pylori (H. pylori) has historically been managed with empiric regimens comprising proton pump inhibitors and a small number of common antibiotics. This has led to rising rates of antibiotic resistance, especially with regimens involving clarithromycin or levofloxacin. To improve falling eradication rates, there is now considerable interest in the role of antimicrobial susceptibility testing ofH. pylori strains to individualize or “tailor” treatment according to the resistance profile.Recent FindingsThe rates at which antimicrobial resistance inH. pylori has shifted upwa...

The epidemiology of Helicobacter pylori resistance in a university affiliated hospital: a comparison between two time periods —a cross-sectional design
ConclusionsOur study has shown that there is an increasing resistance ofH. pylori to clarithromycin and metronidazole while its susceptibility is unaffected with time to other antibiotics. More recent cross-sectional studies with larger samples are warranted in order to evaluate the changes in the resistance patterns ofH. pylori to various antibiotics with time. Phenotypic drug-susceptibility profiles and genetic analysis based on whole-genome sequencing of < i > Mycobacterium avium < /i > complex isolates in Thailand
This study aimed to determine the drug-susceptibility profiles of MAC clinical isolates and to investigate the genetic basis conferring drug resistance using whole-genome sequencing (WGS) analysis. Drug-susceptibility profiles based on minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) assays were determined for 38 MAC clinical isolates (12Mycobacterium avium and 26Mycobacterium intracellulare). Mutations associated with drug resistance were identified through genome analysis of these isolates, and their phylogenetic relationships were also examined. Drug resistance, based on MIC values, was most commonly observed for moxifloxacin (81...

High incidence of antibiotic resistance amongst isolates of < em > Helicobacter pylori < /em > collected in Nottingham, UK, between 2001 and 2018
Conclusion. Although there was high and increasing resistance to clarithromycin and metronidazole, there was no resistance to tetracycline and the frequencies of amoxicillin and levofloxacin resistance were very low.PMID:37962209 | DOI:10.1099/jmm.0.001776 (Source: Journal of Medical Microbiology)

Molecular characterization of rifabutin-resistance in refractory Helicobacter pylori infection in Taiwan
H. pylori eradication has been recommended to prioritize first-line treatment options such as bismuth quadruple therapy or concomitant therapy, which includes a proton pump inhibitor (PPI), clarithromycin, amoxicillin, and metronidazole. However, this treatment regimen may fail to address infections in up to 20% of patients [1]. (Source: International Journal of Infectious Diseases)

Efficacy of adjunctive topical liposomal clarithromycin on systemic Glucantime in Old World cutaneous leishmaniasis: a pilot clinical study
Conclusion: The administration of liposomal clarithromycin in combination with systemic Glucantime had a significant beneficial effect on reducing lesion size in leishmaniasis. Further studies on larger populations are recommended.Systematic Review Registration: https://www.irct.ir/trial/46611. (Source: Frontiers in Pharmacology)

Efficacy and safety of high-dose ilaprazole-amoxicillin dual therapy for Helicobacter pylori eradication: a prospective, single-center, randomized trial
Conclusion: The 14-day HT treatment demonstrates better efficacy in H. pylori eradication treatment and improved safety and compliance compared to BQT. The results provide supporting evidence for 14-day HT can be potentially considered as a first-line regimen for empirical treatment.Clinical Trial Registration:https://www.chictr.org.cn/showproj.html?proj=186562, identifier ChiCTR2200066284 (Source: Frontiers in Pharmacology)

Epidemiology of Nontuberculous Mycobacteria in Tuberculosis suspects, Southwest of China, 2017-2022
ConclusionThe NTM isolation rate in Southwest China has risen in recent years, primarily among elderly patients with a high HIV co-infection rate. The main NTM isolates were MAC and M. chelonae/M. abscessus. Amikacin, moxifloxacin, clarithromycin, and linezolid exhibited strong antibacterial activity against SGM, while amikacin and linezolid displayed relatively better antibacterial activity against RGM. The prevalence of NTM infection may be positively associated with regional economic development and health conditions. (Source: Frontiers in cellular and infection microbiology)

A Case of Mycobacterium abscessus Identified by Suspicious Gram Staining in the Blood Culture of a Patient with Chronic Renal Failure
In this report, a case of M.abscessus, which developed tubular adenoma, pancytopenia and sepsis on the basis of chronic renal failure (CRF) was diagnosed by suspecting the causative agent in the Gram stain examination prepared from blood culture, was presented. A 49-year-old patient with CRF, who had complaints of weight loss, weakness, and loss of appetite for the last six months, admitted to the emergency department with a 7-8-day history of severe diarrhea and fever. Besides other tests, as the white blood cell count was 1.6 x 103/µl, neutrophil count was 80.6%, hemoglobin was 9.3 g/ dl and the platelet value was 36 x ...
