The characterization and comorbidities of heterozygous Bardet-Biedl syndrome carriers
Conclusion: We found that aside from the association with overweight and obesity, heterozygous BBS mutations did not appear to increase the predisposition of individuals to comorbidities and metabolic diseases. To gain a more comprehensive understanding of the genetic susceptibility associated with Bardet-Biedl Syndrome (BBS), further research is warranted.PMID:38617006 | PMC:PMC11008491 | DOI:10.7150/ijms.92766 (Source: International Journal of Medical Sciences)

Stromal rigidity stress accelerates pancreatic intraepithelial neoplasia progression and chromosomal instability via nuclear PTK2 localization
Since the mechanotransduction by stromal stiffness stimulates the rupture and repair of the nuclear envelope in pancreatic progenitor cells, accumulated genomic aberrations are under selection in the tumor microenvironment. Analysis of cell growth, micronuclei, and γH2AX foci links to mechanotransduction pressure in vivo during serial orthotopic passages of mouse KrasLSL-G12D/+;Trp53flox/flox;Pdx1-Cre (KPC) cancer cells in the tumor and in migrating through the size-restricted 3μm micropores. To search for pancreatic cancer cell-of-origin, analysis of single -cell datasets revealed that the ECM shapes an alternate route ...

Letter Regarding: “Mesh Type With Ventral Hernia Repair: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Randomized Trials”
We read the article by Siddiqui et  al. titled “Mesh Type With Ventral Hernia Repair: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Randomized Trials” published in the Journal of Surgical Research with great interest.1 The authors performed a meta-analysis to compare the outcomes of biologic versus synthetic meshes for ventral hernia repair. Their analysis included four randomized controlled trials with a total of 758 patients, demonstrating significantly higher rates of major complications, hernia recurrence, and surgical site occurrences with the use of biological mesh than with synthetic mesh. Xanthohumol, a prenylated chalcone, regulates lipid metabolism by modulating the LXR α/RXR-ANGPTL3-LPL axis in hepatic cell lines and high-fat diet-fed zebrafish models
Biomed Pharmacother. 2024 Apr 13;174:116598. doi: 10.1016/j.biopha.2024.116598. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAngiopoietin-like 3 (ANGPTL3) acts as an inhibitor of lipoprotein lipase (LPL), impeding the breakdown of triglyceride-rich lipoproteins (TGRLs) in circulation. Targeting ANGPTL3 is considered a novel strategy for improving dyslipidemia and atherosclerotic cardiovascular diseases (ASCVD). Hops (Humulus lupulus L.) contain several bioactive prenylflavonoids, including xanthohumol (Xan), isoxanthohumol (Isoxan), 6-prenylnaringenin (6-PN), and 8-prenylnaringenin (8-PN), with the potential to manage lipid metabolism. T...

LDL Receptor-Related Protein 1B Polymorphisms Associated with Increased Risk of Lymph Node Metastasis in Oral Cancer Group with Diabetes Mellitus
Int J Mol Sci. 2024 Apr 2;25(7):3963. doi: 10.3390/ijms25073963.ABSTRACTOral cancer ranks fourth among malignancies among Taiwanese men and is the eighth most common cancer among men worldwide in terms of general diagnosis. The purpose of the current study was to investigate how low-density lipoprotein receptor-related protein 1B (LDL receptor related protein 1B; LRP1B) gene polymorphisms affect oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) risk and progression in individuals with diabetes mellitus (DM). Three LRP1B single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs), including rs10496915, rs431809, and rs6742944, were evaluated in 311 OSCC case...

Pyrroloquinoline quinone ameliorates PM2.5-induced pulmonary fibrosis through targeting epithelial-mesenchymal transition
J Cell Mol Med. 2024 Apr;28(8):e18299. doi: 10.1111/jcmm.18299.ABSTRACTPulmonary fibrosis is a lung disorder affecting the lungs that involves the overexpressed extracellular matrix, scarring and stiffening of tissue. The repair of lung tissue after injury relies heavily on Type II alveolar epithelial cells (AEII), and repeated damage to these cells is a crucial factor in the development of pulmonary fibrosis. Studies have demonstrated that chronic exposure to PM2.5, a form of air pollution, leads to an increase in the incidence and severity of pulmonary fibrosis by stimulation of epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) in...

Defect Induced Structural Transition and Lipase Immobilizatoin in Mesoporous Aluminum Metal-Organic Frameworks
Chemistry. 2024 Apr 12:e202400603. doi: 10.1002/chem.202400603. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe disorder to order and structural transformation are unique metal-organic framework (MOF) characters. How to adapt or control both behaviors in MOF is rarely studied. In this case, we demonstrate that our successful synthesis of [Al(OH)(PDA)]n (AlPDA-53-DEF, AlPDA-53-H, and AlPDA-68) with H2PDA = 4,4'-[1,4-phenylenebis(ethyne-2,1-diyl)]-di benzoic acid has illuminated the intricate world of Aluminum Metal-Organic Frameworks (Al-MOFs), offering profound insights into defect structures to order and transformations. AlPDA-53-DEF, ...
