Hand Castings of Children With Terminal Illnesses From Cancer Can Provide Comfort to Grieving Families
J Palliat Care. 2024 Mar 14:8258597241228988. doi: 10.1177/08258597241228988. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTRegistered nurses have voluntarily created hand casts for families, providing comfort during challenging moments. Hand casting moves the patient's family and nurses. As requested by parents, staff apply a quick-drying gel to sick children's hands and feet. After preparing the gel mold, alginate molding powder is poured in and hardened for many days. Parents mourn their children with great sensitivity. Every mold and hospital bedside we go to offers closure to the lost child's dying moments. A compelling benefit of a ...

Sex Differences in the Short and Long-term Outcomes Following Rotational Atherectomy. A Meta-analysis
Rotational atherectomy (RA) is used to address complex calcified coronary lesions but data regarding the association between gender and outcomes of patients undergoing RA remained uncertain. We aimed to investigate the short and long-term outcomes of patients undergoing RA based on sex. (Source: The American Journal of Cardiology)

Sex Differences in the Short and Long-Term Outcomes Following Rotational Atherectomy: A Meta-Analysis
Rotational atherectomy (RA) is used to address complex calcified coronary lesions but data regarding the association between gender and outcomes of patients who underwent RA remain uncertain. We aimed to investigate the short- and long-term outcomes of patients who underwent RA based on gender.A systematic literature search was performed in PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane databases from its inception until August 2023 for relevant studies. End points were pooled using the DerSimonian and Laird random-effects model as odd ratios (OR) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs). (Source: The American Journal of Cardiology)

Efficacy of Definitive Radiotherapy for Patients with Clinical Stage IIIB or IIIC Lung Adenocarcinoma and Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor (EGFR) Mutations Treated Using First- or Second-Generation EGFR Tyrosine Kinase Inhibitors
CONCLUSION: The addition of definitive RT to first- or second-generation EGFR TKI treatment does not significantly improve OS of patients with EGFR-mutated stage IIIB or IIIC lung adenocarcinoma. HER2-low breast cancers: challenges in the interpretation of immunohistochemistry
Singapore Med J. 2024 Mar 13. doi: 10.4103/singaporemedj.SMJ-2023-037. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTOverexpression of human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) protein in breast cancers carries significant prognostic and therapeutic implications. Anti-HER2 blockade has shown to be a useful adjunct to surgery in treating HER2-positive tumours. Up till today, the HER2 immunohistochemistry (IHC) and in situ hybridisation (ISH) scoring algorithms are geared towards identifying HER2-positive cases. A recently published Phase III clinical trial (DESTINY-Breast04) has demonstrated that an antibody-drug conjugate (trastuzum...

Modulation of secretory factors by lipofundin contributes to its anti ‑neuroinflammatory effects
Exp Ther Med. 2024 Feb 27;27(4):169. doi: 10.3892/etm.2024.12456. eCollection 2024 Apr.ABSTRACTAs the global population ages, the prevalence of neuroinflammatory diseases such as Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease and stroke continues to increase. Therefore, it is necessary to develop preventive and therapeutic methods against neuroinflammatory diseases. Lipofundin is a lipid emulsion commonly used in clinical anesthetic solvents and nutritional supplements. Lipid emulsions have been shown to possess anti-inflammatory properties. However, the potential beneficial effect of lipofundin against neuroinflammation require...
