Relationships between muscle strength, lung function, and cognitive function in Chinese middle-aged and older adults: A study based on the China health and retirement longitudinal study (CHARLS)
CONCLUSION: The study highlights the importance of addressing declines in muscle strength and lung function to identify risk factors associated with cognitive function. Understanding these relationships can provide insights into potential pathways linking these variables and may aid in better prevention of cognitive decline. Further long-term longitudinal cohort studies are needed to explore the causality between these factors.PMID:38594163 | DOI:10.1016/j.jfma.2024.04.001 (Source: J Formos Med Assoc)

Prognostic impact of ARHGAP43(SH3BP1) in acute myeloid leukemia
CONCLUSION: These findings highlight the clinical potential of ARHGAP43 (SH3BP1) as a novel biomarker of AML, with higher levels indicating a poor prognosis.PMID:38582737 | DOI:10.1016/j.jfma.2024.04.002 (Source: J Formos Med Assoc)

Revisiting the surgical table: An analysis of surgical dose-response in Asian exotropia
CONCLUSION: Age, axial length, and preoperative deviation have a nonlinear effect on surgical dose-responses in exotropia patients undergoing R&R. Surgical dose-responses were larger in patients in young adulthood, with longer axial length and larger preoperative deviation angle. A table with fitted values for surgical dose-response based on age, axial length, and preoperative deviation was established for clinical reference.PMID:38580610 | DOI:10.1016/j.jfma.2024.03.023 (Source: J Formos Med Assoc)

Quality of life and clinical correlates in cognitively-able autistic adults: A special focus on sensory characteristics and perceived parental support
CONCLUSION: Findings supported lower QoL in autistic adults. Modifying the QoL correlates may improve life quality in autistic adults. Furthermore, our findings revealed the importance of sensory symptoms and paternal support in QoL of autistic adults, which was a novel finding in this population.PMID:38570236 | DOI:10.1016/j.jfma.2024.03.022 (Source: J Formos Med Assoc)

Exploring the challenges of taiwanese nurses in the COVID-19 post-pandemic era
This study, conducted from May to November 2023, employed a qualitative inquiry using focus groups to delve into these challenges. Six focus group sessions, involving 33 nurse participants recruited through snowball sampling from various hospital settings were conducted to explore their clinical experiences during and after the pandemic. Thematic analysis revealed two primary themes: the 'Invisibility of Nurses' within the healthcare system and the 'Moral Duty of Nursing Practice'. These findings illuminate a tension between the overlooked role of nurses and their ethical obligations, underscoring a critical need for polic...
