Conventional and machine-learning based risk score for patients with early-stage hepatocellular carcinoma
CONCLUSIONS: Both the conventional Cox-based CATS-IF score and ML-based CATS-INF score effectively stratified patients with early-stage HCC into distinct prognostic groups, with the CATS-INF score showing slightly superior performance.PMID:38600872 | DOI:10.3350/cmh.2024.0103 (Source: Clinical and molecular hepatology)

Turnover of PPP1R15A mRNA encoding GADD34 controls responsiveness and adaptation to cellular stress
Cell Rep. 2024 Apr 10;43(4):114069. doi: 10.1016/j.celrep.2024.114069. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe integrated stress response (ISR) is a key cellular signaling pathway activated by environmental alterations that represses protein synthesis to restore homeostasis. To prevent sustained damage, the ISR is counteracted by the upregulation of growth arrest and DNA damage-inducible 34 (GADD34), a stress-induced regulatory subunit of protein phosphatase 1 that mediates translation reactivation and stress recovery. Here, we uncover a novel ISR regulatory mechanism that post-transcriptionally controls the stability of PPP1R15...

Proteomic profiling of tumor microenvironment and prognosis risk prediction in stage I lung adenocarcinoma
Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related mortality worldwide [1]. With the popularity of low-dose computed tomography (CT) screening, more and more early-stage lung cancers were being diagnosed. Flores et al. found a stage shift from later to earlier stage disease among people with lung cancer over the last decade. From 2006 to 2016, stage I-II lung cancer diagnoses increased from 26.5  % to 31.2 %, and stage III-IV diagnoses decreased from 70.8 % to 66.1 % [2]. The majority of patients diagnosed with low-dose CT were in the earlier stage. (Source: Lung Cancer)

Pharmacological interventions to improve sleep in people with Alzheimer's disease: a meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials
CONCLUSION: Although melatonin was the most investigated intervention, the evidence for its efficacy is inconclusive. On the other hand, trazodone and orexin receptor antagonists showed promising results; however, more RCTs are needed for definite answers.PMID:38597219 | DOI:10.1080/14737175.2024.2341004 (Source: Expert Review of Neurotherapeutics)

Circulating tumor cells help differentiate benign ovarian lesions from cancer before surgery: A literature review and proof of concept study using flow cytometry with fluorescence imaging
Oncol Lett. 2024 Mar 26;27(5):234. doi: 10.3892/ol.2024.14367. eCollection 2024 May.ABSTRACTCurrent tools are insufficient for distinguishing patients with ovarian cancer from those with benign ovarian lesions before extensive surgery. The present study utilized a readily accessible platform employing a negative selection strategy, followed by flow cytometry, to enumerate circulating tumor cells (CTCs) in patients with ovarian cancer. These counts were compared with those from patients with benign ovarian lesions. CTC counts at baseline, before and after anticancer therapy, and across various clinical scenarios involving o...
