Anti-proliferation and anti-migration effects of an aqueous extract of Cinnamomi ramulus on MH7A rheumatoid arthritis-derived fibroblast-like synoviocytes through induction of apoptosis, cell arrest and suppression of matrix metalloproteinase.
CONCLUSIONS: The anti-RA effect of ACR may be attributed to its anti-proliferative and anti-migration effects on synovial fibroblasts. These data suggest that Cinnamomi ramulus may have therapeutic value for the treatment of RA. PMID: 32878533 [PubMed - in process] (Source: Pharmaceutical Biology)

Corilagin suppresses RANKL-induced osteoclastogenesis and inhibits oestrogen deficiency-induced bone loss via the NF- κB and PI3K/AKT signalling pathways.
In conclusion, our findings suggested that Corilagin inhibited osteoclastogenesis by down-regulating the NF-κB and PI3K/AKT signalling pathways, thus showing its potential possibility for the treatment of osteoporosis. PMID: 32681612 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher] (Source: J Cell Mol Med)

Potential Targets for Treatment of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19): A Review of Qing-Fei-Pai-Du-Tang and Its Major Herbs.
Abstract COVID-19 has been declared a pandemic by WHO on March 11, 2020. No specific treatment and vaccine with documented safety and efficacy for the disease have been established. Hence it is of utmost importance to identify more therapeutics such as Chinese medicine formulae to meet the urgent need. Qing Fei Pai Du Tang (QFPDT), a Chinese medicine formula consisting of 21 herbs from five classical formulae has been reported to be efficacious on COVID-19 in 10 provinces in mainland China. QFPDT could prevent the progression from mild cases and shorten the average duration of symptoms and hospital stay. I...

Insecticidal activity and mechanism of cinnamaldehyde in C. elegans.
Abstract Cinnamon is the dried bark of Cinnamomum cassia Presl, and its main component is cinnamaldehyde (CA). Decades of synthetic pesticide use to control parasitic nematodes that can harm plants has seriously polluted the environment and poses a risk to soil ecology, highlighting the need to develop natural biological pesticides. Some species classified under Nematoda are highly similar, therefore we used the model organism C. elegans to explore the effect of cinnamaldehyde, a plant-derived natural product, on C. elegans viability. We found that the lethal dose of cinnamaldehyde for C. elegans treatment...

Luhong Formula Has a Cardioprotective Effect on Left Ventricular Remodeling in Pressure-Overloaded Rats.
Conclusion: LHF can improve left ventricular remodeling in a pressure-overloaded heart failure rat model; this cardiac protective ability may be due to cardiac fibrosis and attenuated apoptosis. Upregulated eNOS expression and downregulated Col1a1, Col3a1, TGF-β1, caspase-3, VEGF, and VEGFR2 expression may play a role in the observed LHF cardioprotective effect.
