Functional quality of life among newly diagnosed young adult colorectal cancer survivors compared to older adults: results from the ColoCare Study
ConclusionYA CRC survivors reported better physical and worse social function compared to older CRC survivors, and YA CRC survivors were more likely to report clinically meaningful social, role, and physical disfunction. Future work should further investigate QOL using age-relevant benchmarks to inform best practices for CRC survivorship care.Trial registrationNCT02328677, registered December 2014. Exploring Adolescent and Young Adult Cancer Survivors' Experience with Cancer Treatment-Related Symptoms: A Qualitative Analysis of Semi-Structured Interviews
Conclusion: Results highlight the burden of cancer treatment-related symptoms on day-to-day life among post-treatment AYA cancer survivors. Future work is needed to identify nonpharmacological symptom management interventions, strategies to improve patient-clinician communication about symptoms, and strategies to increase the visibility and accessibility of symptom management clinical trials for AYA cancer survivors.PMID:38634665 | DOI:10.1089/jayao.2024.0053 (Source: Ann Oncol)

Early detection of gastrointestinal polyps and neoplasia following radiation for childhood-onset cancer
A massive and rapidly increasing burden of care exists for all physicians caring for the 80–90% of childhood cancer survivors. All paediatricians and general practitioners (GPs) seeing these adolescents must attain a sound knowledge of the risks, current and future, faced by these young people. Provision of improved care and appropriate surveillance during adolescence, with information for adult services at time of transition, will also empower patients and their families to advocate for and act upon the essential requirements for long-term surveillance. Not all these risks are yet commonly recognised. Exposure to ab...

Cancers, Vol. 16, Pages 1553: Early-Onset Gastrointestinal Malignancies: An Investigation into a Rising Concern
. Krishna There is growing recognition of early-onset gastrointestinal (GI) malignancies in young adults < 50 years of age. While much of the literature has emphasized colorectal cancer, these also include esophageal, gastric, liver, pancreatic, and biliary tract malignancies. Various factors, including lifestyle, hereditary, and environmental elements, have been proposed to explain the rising incidence of GI malignancies in the younger population. This review aims to provide an overview of the recent literature, including global trends and information regarding genetic and environmental risk factors. (Source: Cancers)

The potential impact of exercise upon symptom burden in adolescents and young adults undergoing cancer treatment
CONCLUSION: A 10-week exercise intervention reduces the severity of fatigue in AYAs undergoing treatment. While the ToxT approach provided insight into the toxicity profile, adequately powered studies are needed to better understand these differences within a homogenous sample.TRIAL REGISTRATION: (ACTRN12620000663954) 10th June 2020.PMID:38632192 | DOI:10.1007/s00520-024-08497-0 (Source: Cancer Control)

Exploring preconception health in adolescents and young adults: Identifying risk factors and interventions to prevent adverse maternal, perinatal, and child health outcomes-A scoping review
CONCLUSION: The scoping review identified a scarcity of evidence on preconception risk factors and interventions among adolescents and young adults. This underscores the crucial need for additional research on the subject.PMID:38630699 | DOI:10.1371/journal.pone.0300177 (Source: Herpes)

Deciphering the prognostic landscape of osteosarcoma: Integrating the roles of hippo pathway genes, programmed cell death, and the tumor immune microenvironment
Environ Toxicol. 2024 Apr 15. doi: 10.1002/tox.24280. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTOsteosarcoma is a highly aggressive cancer prevalent among adolescents and young adults, notorious for its tendency to metastasize to the lungs. This research delves into the molecular foundations of osteosarcoma by examining the role of the Hippo signaling pathway and its interaction with the tumor immune microenvironment (TME). Through analysis of transcriptomic data from the TARGET-OS dataset and control samples from GTEx, we identified a set of 131 genes that link high expression profiles in osteosarcoma with the Hippo pathway. A focuse...

Efficacy of a web-based psychoeducational intervention, Fex-can sex, for young adult childhood cancer survivors with sexual dysfunction: A randomized controlled trial
CONCLUSION: The Fex-Can Sex intervention shows potential to improve sexual function, especially among those with greater dysfunction. To increase adherence and effect, we recommend the intervention to be further developed including more tailored content.CLINICAL TRIAL REGISTRATION: ISRCTN Registry, trial number: 33081791 (registered on November 27, 2019).PMID:38623084 | PMC:PMC11016752 | DOI:10.1016/j.invent.2024.100739 (Source: Cancer Control)

Socioeconomic inequalities  in cancer incidence and mortality: An analysis of GLOBOCAN 2022
CONCLUSIONS: Infection- and poverty-related cancer burdens are offset by increased prostate, breast, colorectal, and lung cancer incidence associated with rapid societal and economic transitions. Cancer incidence and mortality patterns in China feature characteristics of developed and developing countries, necessitating tailored, evidence-based, and comprehensive strategies for effective cancer prevention and control.PMID:38616547 | DOI:10.1097/CM9.0000000000003140 (Source: Chinese Medical Journal)

Paediatric onset lymphomatoid papulosis: results of a multicentre retrospective cohort study, on behalf of the EORTC Cutaneous Lymphoma Tumours Group (CLTG)
CONCLUSIONS: We report epidemiological data from a large international cohort of children and adolescents with LyP. Overall the prognosis of the disease is good, with excellent survival rates for all patients. Due to increased risk of associated HM, a long-term follow-up should be recommended for LyP patients.PMID:38595050 | DOI:10.1093/bjd/ljae150 (Source: The British Journal of Dermatology)
