Disproportionate neuroanatomical effects of < em > DCC < /em > haploinsufficiency in adolescence compared with adulthood: links to dopamine, connectivity, covariance, and gene expression brain maps in mice
CONCLUSION: The neuroanatomical phenotype of DCC haploinsufficiency described in mice parallels that observed in DCC-haploinsufficient humans. It is critical to understand the DCC-haploinsufficient mouse as a clinically relevant model system.PMID:38692693 | DOI:10.1503/jpn.230106 (Source: J Psychiatry Neurosc...)

Toward a Unified Theory of Why Young People Develop Cancer
Cold Spring Harb Perspect Med. 2024 May 1:a041658. doi: 10.1101/cshperspect.a041658. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTEpidemiologic and genetic studies have now defined specific patterns of incidence and distinct molecular features of cancers in young versus aging people. Here, I review a general framework for the causes of cancer in children and young adults by relating somatic genetic mosaicism and developmental tissue mutagenesis. This framework suggests how aging-associated cancers such as carcinomas, glioblastomas, and myelodysplastic leukemias are causally distinct from cancers that predominantly affect children and you...

Addressing childhood cancer: actions taken in the Dominican Republic
This report provides a summary of childhood cancer and the efforts made in the Dominican Republic to address child and adolescent cancer in line with the World Health Organization's Global Initiative for Childhood Cancer. Information was obtained by review of recent local and international literature on pediatric oncology. As a result of the Global Initiative, a meeting was held by the Council of Ministers of Health of Central America to support the development of national pediatric cancer plans for each country. The objectives of these plans are to improve overall survival and quality of care for children with cancer thro...
