Predictors for early recurrence beyond up-to-7 or distant metastasis after hepatocellular carcinoma resection: proposal for borderline resectable HCC
ConclusionsIn this retrospective analysis, MVI, TBS, and ALBI could predict severe early recurrence after hepatic resection for HCC, and patients with these risk factors had a poor prognosis. (Source: International Journal of Clinical Oncology)

Intratumoral heterogeneity of Ki67 proliferation index outperforms conventional immunohistochemistry prognostic factors in estrogen receptor-positive HER2-negative breast cancer
This study utilized digital image analysis (DIA) and computational pathology methods to investigate the prognostic value of ITH indicators in ER-positive (ER+) HER2-negative (HER2 −) BC patients. Whole slide images (WSIs) of surgically excised specimens stained for ER, PR, Ki67, and HER2 from 254 patients were used. DIA with tumor tissue segmentation and detection of biomarker-positive cells was performed. The DIA-generated data were subsampled by a hexagonal grid to comput e Haralick’s texture indicators for ER, PR, and Ki67. Cox regression analyses were performed to assess the prognostic significance of the immunohis...

Surgical margins and prognosis of borderline and malignant phyllodes tumors
ConclusionsA negative surgical margin of at least 1  cm (with secondary resection if necessary) should be achieved for borderline and malignant PTs. Tumor size ≥ 5 cm and age <  45 years were predictive of recurrence, suggesting multiple therapy modalities may be considered for these high-risk patients. CT-Based Radiomics and Machine Learning for Differentiating Benign, Borderline, and Early-Stage Malignant Ovarian Tumors
AbstractTo explore the value of CT-based radiomics model in the differential diagnosis of benign ovarian tumors (BeOTs), borderline ovarian tumors (BOTs), and early malignant ovarian tumors (eMOTs). The retrospective research was conducted with pathologically confirmed 258 ovarian tumor patients from January 2014 to February 2021. The patients were randomly allocated to a training cohort (n = 198) and a test cohort (n = 60). By providing a three-dimensional (3D) characterization of the volume of interest (VOI) at the maximum level of images, 4238 radiomic features were extracted from the VOI per patient. The Wilcox...

A Successful Live Birth From a Vitrified Oocyte for Fertility Preservation of a Patient With Borderline Ovarian Tumor Undergoing Bilateral Ovarian Surgery: A Case Report
This article reports the live birth of a healthy newborn using vitrified-warmed oocytes from fertility preservation before ovarian surgery. The patient in our case underwent two cycles of controlled ovarian stimulation before laparoscopic bilateral ovarian cystectomy for endometriosis, and a total of 23 mature oocytes were vitrified. After surgery, her pathologic reports revealed a serous borderline tumor and endometrioma. Fifteen months after her second surgery of laparoscopic right salpingo-oophorectomy and left ovarian cystectomy owing to recurrence, she had been married by then, and three of the frozen oocytes were tha...

Gynecological cancer during pregnancy —From a gyne‐oncological perspective
AbstractGynecological cancer diagnosed during pregnancy requires accurate diagnosis and staging to determine optimal treatment based on gestational age. Cervical and ovarian cancers are the most common and multidisciplinary team collaboration is pivotal. Magnetic resonance imaging and ultrasound can be used without causing fetal harm. In cervical cancer, early-stage treatments can often be delayed until fetal lung maturation and cesarean section is recommended if disease prevails, in combination with a simple/radical hysterectomy and lymphadenectomy. Chemoradiotherapy, the recommended treatment for advanced stages, is not ...

Female advantage in neoadjuvant pancreatic cancer therapy: is it down to macrophages?
Pancreatic cancer still carries the worst survival rate among all solid tumours, mostly due to the absence of early symptoms and a lack of satisfying treatment options, leading to an appalling 5-year survival rate of less than 12%. The only potentially curative treatment option is surgical resection followed by adjuvant chemotherapy. Since pancreatic cancer is usually diagnosed at advanced stage, treatment with curative intent can be provided to only 15–20% of patients. However, even after surgical resection, most patients develop local or systemic recurrence. During recent years, neoadjuvant chemotherapeutic regimen...

D-dimer, Fibrinogen and Tumor Marker Levels in Patients with benign and Malignant Ovarian Tumors
Asian Pac J Cancer Prev. 2023 Dec 1;24(12):4263-4268. doi: 10.31557/APJCP.2023.24.12.4263.ABSTRACTLimited studies have investigated the differences between the levels of plasma coagulants and tumor markers in ovarian cancer. Therefore, we conducted this study to determine and compare the level of coagulation, fibrinolysis and tumor markers in patients with benign and malignant ovarian tumors. This cross-sectional study was conducted between January 2022 and February 2023 in Imam Hossein Hospital on patients with ovarian mass. Laboratory tests included platelet count, PT, INR, PTT, fibrinogen and D-dimer were sent to the pa...
