Validation of ADNEX and IOTA two-step strategy and estimation of risk of complications during follow-up of adnexal masses in low-risk population
CONCLUSIONS: The ADNEX model and IOTA two-step strategy performed well to distinguish benign from malignant adnexal masses detected in a low-risk population. Conservative management is safe for masses with benign ultrasound appearance in such a population. This article is protected by copyright. Prospective external validation of IOTA methods for classifying adnexal masses and retrospective assessment of two-step strategy using benign descriptors and ADNEX: a Portuguese multicenter study
CONCLUSIONS: Our results showed a good to excellent performance of the IOTA methods in the studied Portuguese population, outperforming RMI. ADNEX was superior in accuracy, but interpretation of its ability to distinguish malignant subtypes was fundamentally limited not only by sample size but also by large differences in the prevalence of tumor subtypes. The IOTA MBDs have been shown to be reliable in identifying benign disease. The two-step strategy based on the application of MBDs, followed by the ADNEX model if MBDs are not applicable, has proven to be suitable for daily practice circumventing the need to use electroni...

< em > Salvia officinalis < /em > L. exerts oncostatic effects in rodent and < em > in vitro < /em > models of breast carcinoma
Conclusion: The dominant metabolites found in S. officinalis propylene glycol extract (SPGE) were representatives of phenolics, specifically rosmarinic, protocatechuic, and salicylic acids. Furthermore, the occurrence of triterpenoids ursolic and oleanolic acid was proved in SPGE. In a mouse model, a non-significant tumor volume decrease after S. officinalis treatment was associated with a significant reduction in the mitotic activity index of 4T1 tumors by 37.5% (SAL 0.1) and 31.5% (SAL 1) vs. controls (set as a blank group with not applied salvia in the diet). In addition, salvia at higher doses significantly decreased n...

Morphologic features of prostate cancer-encased native vessels: An image analysis study
CONCLUSIONS: Similar to the 2000 study, increased media thickness and hypercellularity of vessels encased by PC were evident compared to controls. Borderline grade-dependent increased vessel cellularity changes were seen, suggesting a possible role in PC progression; the predictive value of these changes for outcome is uncertain. Whether the etiology of changes reflects locally increased intravascular pressure of vessels within tumor should be investigated.PMID:38461692 | DOI:10.1016/j.prp.2024.155239 (Source: Pathology, Research and Practice)

Oncologic and reproductive outcomes after fertility-sparing surgery for bilateral borderline ovarian tumors: A retrospective study
CONCLUSIONS: Satisfactory pregnancy rate can be achieved after conservative surgery in patients with bilateral BOTs. BOC is worth recommending for bilateral borderline ovarian tumors and a critical factor in fertility is the preservation of maximum healthy ovarian tissue. Patients should make a pregnancy plan in 2 years after the first surgery. GnRHa increase the rate of successful clinical pregnancies.PMID:38422803 | DOI:10.1016/j.ejogrb.2024.02.027 (Source: Reproductive Biology)

Advances in Surgery and (Neo) Adjuvant Therapy in the Management of Pancreatic Cancer
A multimodality approach, which usually includes chemotherapy, surgery, and/or radiotherapy, is optimal for patients with localized pancreatic cancer. The timing and sequence of these interventions depend on anatomic resectability and the biological suitability of the tumor and the patient. Tumors with vascular involvement (ie, borderline resectable/locally advanced) require surgical reassessments after therapy and participation of surgeons familiar with advanced techniques. When indicated, venous reconstruction should be offered as standard of care because it has acceptable morbidity. Morbidity and mortality of pancreas s...

Contemporary Management of Phyllodes Tumors
AbstractPurposeof ReviewPhyllodes tumors (PT) are rare fibroepithelial lesions of the breast. It is critical to understand the behavior of benign, borderline, and malignant PT so as to recommend appropriate treatment. This review describes findings on diagnostic testing and pathology that differentiate these tumors, as well as recommended management.Recent FindingsBetter understanding of outcomes following PT resection has led to changes in local therapy recommendations, with wide margins (>  1 cm) strongly recommended for malignant PT only. Other PT may be resected with smaller (or no) margin without impact on local...

Determining the diagnosis of an oncocytic renal neoplasm: a case report
This is the case of a 45 year old male patient with an oncocytic renal neoplasm that was difficult to classify. Histology from a partial nephrectomy revealed a tumour comprising oncocytic cells containing rounded nuclei with some prominent nucleoli, although no necrosis or lymphovascular invasion. CK7 immunohistochemistry was focally positive, with only weak staining for CD117. There are multiple lesions to consider in the differential diagnosis of oncocytic renal tumours with borderline features between oncocytoma and chromophobe carcinoma.
