Cancers, Vol. 16, Pages 910: Neoadjuvant and Adjuvant Chemotherapy for Pancreatic Adenocarcinoma: Literature Review and Our Experience of NAC-GS
ubota In addition to established evidence of the efficacy of adjuvant chemotherapy (AC) for pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC), evidence of the effects of neoadjuvant treatments (NATs), including chemotherapy and chemoradiotherapy, has also been accumulating. Recent results from prospective studies and meta-analyses suggest that NATs may be beneficial not only for borderline resectable PDAC, but also for resectable PDAC, by increasing the likelihood of successful R0 resection, decreasing the likelihood of the development of lymph node metastasis, and improving recurrence-free and overall survival. In addition, res...

Salvia officinalis L. exerts oncostatic effects in rodent and in vitro models of breast carcinoma
Conclusion: The dominant metabolites found in S. officinalis propylene glycol extract (SPGE) were representatives of phenolics, specifically rosmarinic, protocatechuic, and salicylic acids. Furthermore, the occurrence of triterpenoids ursolic and oleanolic acid was proved in SPGE. In a mouse model, a non-significant tumor volume decrease after S. officinalis treatment was associated with a significant reduction in the mitotic activity index of 4T1 tumors by 37.5% (SAL 0.1) and 31.5% (SAL 1) vs. controls (set as a blank group with not applied salvia in the diet). In addition, salvia at higher doses significantly decreased n...

Risk of borderline ovarian tumors after fertility treatment - Results from a Danish cohort of infertile women
CONCLUSIONS: No marked associations between use of fertility drugs and borderline ovarian tumors were observed. However, the cohort's relatively young age at end of follow-up emphasizes the importance of extending the follow-up period for women who have used fertility drugs.PMID:38382167 | DOI:10.1016/j.ygyno.2024.02.013 (Source: Gynecologic Oncology)

The effect of androgens on the risk of endometriosis sub-phenotypes and ovarian neoplasms: A Mendelian Randomization study
J Steroid Biochem Mol Biol. 2024 Feb 16:106482. doi: 10.1016/j.jsbmb.2024.106482. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTEndometriosis is a complex gynecological pathology with a broad spectrum of symptoms, affecting around 10% of reproductive-aged women. Ovarian cancer (OC) is a heterogeneous disease for which we lack effective diagnostic and therapeutic strategies. The etiology and pathogenesis of both diseases remain ambiguous. Androgens in endometriosis could have a distinct role beyond serving as estrogen sources, whereas in the case of serous OC could be important in the formation of precursor lesions which ultimately lead to...

Prognostic Significance of Biologic Factors in Patients with a Modest Radiologic Response to Neoadjuvant Treatment for Resectable and Borderline Resectable Pancreatic Cancers: Impact of the Combination Index of Sialyl-Lewis Antigen-Related Tumor Markers
CONCLUSIONS: Additional evaluation of biologic factors can potentially enhance patient selection, particularly for patients showing a limited radiologic response to NAT. The authors' index is a simple indicator for the biologic evaluation of multiple combined sialyl-Lewis antigen-related TMs and may offer a better predictive significance.PMID:38368291 | DOI:10.1245/s10434-024-14945-2 (Source: Ann Oncol)

Predictive Role of HE4 in Diagnosis of Ovarian Tumors
ConclusionMeasuring serum HE4 along with CA-125 in preoperative diagnosis helps in excluding benign ovarian tumors in which CA-125 was falsely raised, especially in center where frozen section is not available, thus potentially decreasing morbid debulking surgeries done for benign ovarian tumors. Potential interplay between tumor size and vitamin D receptor (VDR) polymorphisms in breast cancer prognosis: a prospective cohort study
ConclusionVDR genotypes were associated with breast cancer prognosis and the association might be modified by tumor size. Further research is needed to confirm the findings and elucidate their potential clinical implications. (Source: Cancer Causes and Control)

Oncologic and reproductive outcomes after fertility-sparing surgery for bilateral borderline ovarian tumors: A retrospective study
Borderline ovarian tumors (BOTs) comprise 10 –20 % of all ovarian malignancies. BOTs show histological properties and biological functions between noncancerous and cancerous epithelial ovarian tumors [1]. Most women with BOTs show significantly higher survival rates [2]. Because BOTs generally occur in teenage girls or young women, fertili ty-sparing surgical treatment that preserves the uterus and at least a part of one ovary has become the gold standard for women with BOTs desiring to preserve their childbearing potential. Patterns of Failure Following Preoperative Chemotherapy and Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy and Resection for Patients with Borderline Resectable or Locally Advanced Pancreatic Cancer
ConclusionsFollowing preoperative chemotherapy and SBRT, locoregional failure outside of the target volume occurred in 3 of 5 recurrences; ENI was associated with improved LRC and LRRFS. Further studies are necessary to define the optimal techniques for preoperative radiation therapy. (Source: Journal of Gastrointestinal Cancer)

Postmenopausal onset of androgen excess: a diagnostic and therapeutic algorithm based on extensive clinical experience
ConclusionsClinical or biochemical features of an aggressive androgen-secreting tumor should lead to urgently obtaining a targeted imaging. At first, an abdominal-pelvic CT scan represents the best choice to perceive adrenal malignancy, and may identify aggressive ovarian tumors. When warning signs are lacking, a calm and orderly work-up allows properly addressing the diagnostic challenge of postmenopausal hyperandrogenism. (Source: Journal of Endocrinological Investigation)
