Resectability versus Operability in Early-Stage Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer
AbstractPurpose of ReviewWith increased detection of early-stage non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) owing to screening, determining optimal management increasingly hinges on assessing resectability and operability. Resectability refers to the feasibility of achieving microscopically negative margins based on tumour size, location and degree of local invasion and achieving an anatomical lobar resection. Operability reflects the patient ’s tolerance for resection based on comorbidities, cardiopulmonary reserve and frailty. Standardized criteria help guide these assessments, but application variability contributes to practi...

The survival in octogenarians undergoing surgery for pancreatic cancer and its association with the nutritional status
ConclusionsSurvival outcomes were poor in octogenarians. However, an age  ≥ 80 years old alone should not be considered a contraindication for pancreatic cancer surgery. The maintenance of perioperative nutritional status is an important factor associated with the survival. (Source: Surgery Today)

Endoscopic ultrasound-guided perivascular pancreatic radiofrequency ablation using a hydroxyethyl starch solution prior to pancreatectomy
Conclusions Preoperative perivascular augmented RFA using HES was safe, and in the pancreatic animal model, the best timeframe was within 24 hours before pancreatic surgery. This technique might improve resectability in selected borderline and locally advanced pancreatic cancers.
