Cancers, Vol. 16, Pages 1604: Treatment of Pelvic and Spinal Bone Metastases: Radiotherapy and Hyperthermia Alone vs. in Combination
The objective of our study was to present the results of RT combined with a special kind of HT (modulated electrohyperthermia, mEHT), in which some of the thermal effect is contributed by equivalent nonthermal components, drastically reducing the necessary power and energy. This retrospective study included 61 patients divided into three groups with pelvic and spinal bone metastases to compare the effects of RT and mEHT alone and in combination (RT + mEHT). A detailed evaluation of pain intensity, measured by the brief pain inventory score, MeM use, and breakthrough pain episodes, revealed no significant differences betwee...

Effectiveness of a classification-based approach to low back pain in primary care - a benchmarking controlled trial
Conclusion: Although classification-based care did not appear to influence physical functioning, more rapid reductions in pain intensity and reductions in healthcare use and sick leave days were observed in the intervention group.PMID:38643363 | DOI:10.2340/jrm.v56.28321 (Source: Journal of Rehabilitation Medicine)

Comparison of Outcomes between Single-Level and Double-Level Corpectomy in Thoracolumbar Reconstruction: A Retrospective Study of 16 Patients Using Expandable Cages
CONCLUSIONS In our experience, expandable cages are useful in the restoration of different pathologies of the thoracolumbar trunk with low complication and revision rates. With expandable cages it is possible to achieve restoration of the Cobb angle, improvement in Nurick Grade and effective pain palliation.PMID:38641870 | DOI:10.12659/MSM.943797 (Source: Medical Science Monitor)

Influence of frailty status on the health-related quality of life in older patients with chronic low back pain: a retrospective observational study
ConclusionsA significant association exists between frailty and reduced HRQoL in patients with chronic low back pain. This association was predominant in female patients. Furthermore, considering the dynamic nature of frailty, early detection and effective interventions targeting pre-frailty are essential to delaying the transition to full frailty and improving HRQoL.
