Perioperative management and outcomes for posterior spinal fusion in patients with Friedreich ataxia: A single-center, retrospective study
CONCLUSIONS: Patients with Friedreich ataxia are at high risk for perioperative complications when undergoing posterior spinal fusion and coordinated multidisciplinary care is required at each stage. Future research should focus on the utility of intraoperative echocardiography, optimal anesthetic agent selection, and targeted fluid management to reduce postoperative cardiac complications.PMID:38655751 | DOI:10.1111/pan.14896 (Source: Paediatric Anaesthesia)

An Unusual Cause of Insidious Back and Shoulder Pain in a Man: A Case Report
In this study, we aimed to raise awareness by presenting the first reported isolated hydatid cyst in the infraspinatus muscle case from our country, which is extremely rare.PMID:38654945 | PMC:PMC11033544 | DOI:10.18502/ijpa.v19i1.15220 (Source: Iranian Journal of Parasitology)

Full Endoscopic anterior cervical discectomy versus anterior cervical discectomy with fusion. A systematic review
Conclusion A definitive conclusion cannot be drawn. Single-level AECD seems to have results equivalent to ACDF, presenting even some benefits. Technical limitations combined with required surgical skills and experience should be considered. We recommend cautious employment in anticipation of future updates.PMID:38650569 | DOI:10.5137/1019-5149.JTN.44424-23.2 (Source: Turkish Neurosurgery)

Health-related quality of life of patients with postural kyphosis compared to spinal deformities in adolescence: A cross-sectional study
CONCLUSION: HRQoL of patients with PK is reduced, similar to that of patients with common structural spine deformities. Recognizing the effects of PK on the HRQoL in adolescents can help physicians to treat these patients.PMID:38650564 | DOI:10.5137/1019-5149.JTN.43440-23.2 (Source: Turkish Neurosurgery)

The effect of halofuginone use on epidural fibrosis after spinal surgery: An animal experiment
CONCLUSION: Halofuginone helps prevent EF after spinal surgery. However, further clinical and experimental studies are needed to assess its safety in humans.PMID:38650558 | DOI:10.5137/1019-5149.JTN.42998-22.3 (Source: Turkish Neurosurgery)

Characteristics of Lumbar Spondylolysis in Adolescent Baseball Players: Relationship between the Laterality of Lumbar Spondylolysis and the Throwing or Batting Side
CONCLUSIONS: Adolescent baseball players, particularly pitchers, exhibited a higher incidence of lumbar spondylolysis on the side opposite their throwing arm. The findings of this study highlight the significant effect of asymmetrical sporting activities on the development of spondylolysis, to which pitchers are particularly susceptible.PMID:38650091 | DOI:10.31616/asj.2023.0360 (Source: Asian Spine Journal)
