Dispositional traits help explain individual differences in relationships between a radiographic knee osteoarthritis measure, pain, and physical function
CONCLUSION: Consideration of dispositional traits reduces the variability between radiographic KOA and pain and function. Non-pathological and associated pain-related psychological factors and dispositional traits might serve as parsimonious proxy tools to improve clinical assessments.REGISTRATION: N/A.PMID:38516228 | PMC:PMC10956141 | DOI:10.1177/1759720X241235805 (Source: Adv Data)

Immune-related adverse events associated with first-line immune checkpoint inhibitors for metastatic renal cell carcinoma: A systematic review and network meta-analysis
CONCLUSION: The analysis focused on the probability of irAEs occurrence in each system when mRCC patients were treated with different ICI-based therapies, potentially offering significant value for guiding clinical prevention, early diagnosis, and management of irAEs. The limitations of the study included the potential heterogeneity and low certainty of part of the evidence.PMID:38518592 | DOI:10.1016/j.intimp.2024.111884 (Source: International Immunopharmacology)

Immune-Related Adverse Event-Related Adrenal Insufficiency Mediates Immune Checkpoint Inhibitors Efficacy in Cancer Treatment
CONCLUSION: IrAE-related AI was significantly associated with ICI treatment efficacy in patients with cancer, which could be a potentially predictable marker. Due to the destruction of adrenal tissue by T cells with enhanced activity, AI reflects enhanced T cell activity to some extent.PMID:38501053 | PMC:PMC10946443 | DOI:10.2147/CMAR.S444916 (Source: Cancer Control)

Rare copy number variation in autoimmune Addison ’s disease
In conclusion, rare CNVs do not appear to be a major cause of AAD but further studies are needed to ascertain the potential contribution of rare deletions to the polygenic load of AAD susceptibility. (Source: Frontiers in Immunology)

Application of the integrated threat theory to conservation law enforcement
Conserv Biol. 2024 Mar 13:e14248. doi: 10.1111/cobi.14248. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTInteractions between law enforcement agents in conservation (e.g., rangers) and illegal resource users (e.g., illegal hunters) can be violent and sometimes fatal, which negatively affects conservation efforts and people's well-being. Models from social psychology, such as integrated threat theory (ITT) (intergroup interactions shape intergroup emotions, prejudices and perceived threats leading to hostile attitudes or behaviors between groups), are useful in addressing such interactions. Conservation approaches relying mainly on law enf...

Adrenal insufficiency following cerebellar intracranial hemorrhage: a case report
This report presents a case of a previously healthy 58 years-old man who had suffered from persistent weakness and dizziness after a cerebellar intracranial hemorrhage (ICH). Endocrine function tests revealed low levels of plasma cortisol (3.05 μg/dL; normal range: 5–25 μg/dL) and adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) (6.0 pg/mL; normal range: 10–60 pg/mL). The subsequent ACTH stimulation test suggested partial or recent hypopituitarism, resulting in adrenal gland atrophy and a subnormal cortisol response. Ultimately, the dizziness was found to be caused by undiagnosed adrenal insufficiency, which was detected...

Salivary Cortisol Measurement Contamination After Oral Hydrocortisone: A Randomized Crossover Trial
Horm Metab Res DOI: 10.1055/a-2271-0700The study aimed to evaluate salivary cortisol (SC) contamination and determine the associated factors in secondary adrenal insufficiency (SAI) patients treated with hydrocortisone (Hc). A randomized crossover trial involved SAI patients. SC was measured before the morning Hc dose, then at one, two, and four hours after. The procedure was performed twice on two days of a week: one day while taking Hc in tablet form (tablet set) and one day while taking Hc in capsule form (capsule set). Area under the curve (AUC) of SC levels o...
