An Examination of Psycho-Behavioral Risk and Resilience in People with Chronically Painful Knee Osteoarthritis
Knee osteoarthritis (OA) is a common chronic condition that often results in high levels of pain severity and functional impairment. People with chronic pain tend to have poor sleep and are at greater psychological risk for experiencing persistent negative mood states. Additionally, measurements of psychological resilience also tend to be lower in people with knee OA. However, there are still mixed findings within the literature as to the exact relationships between psychological risk/resilience, sleep quality, pain and functioning in people with chronic pain. A Comprehensive Pain-Related Risk And Protective Index And Machine Learning Brain Age Gap
We reported that greater chronic pain severity and socioenvironmental risk and lower biobehavioral/psychosocial resilience are associated with higher allostatic load across multiple measures. The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between a combined measure of chronic pain, socioenvironmental status, and biobehavioral/psychosocial resilience with a measure of allostatic load, predicted-chronological brain age gap (BAG). Cancers, Vol. 16, Pages 1374: MGMT Methylation and Differential Survival Impact by Sex in Glioblastoma
Conclusions: In this study, females had higher mean and individual CpG site methylation and received a greater PFS and OS benefit by MGMT methylation that was not seen in males despite equal degrees of CpG methylation. (Source: Cancers)

The Impact of Pre-Trauma Steroid Use on Wound Healing and Outcomes
This study presents data on pre-trauma steroid use, a topic underrepresented in the trauma literature. Long-term steroid use has been linked to impaired wound healing, compromised immune responses, and hindrance of bone healing, alongside the potential for adrenal insufficiency during traumatic events. The aim of this study was to conduct a retrospective analysis of clinical outcomes for trauma patients with chronic steroid use. Examining adult trauma cases with pre-trauma steroid use at a level 1 trauma center (January 2016-September 2023), we identified 18 patients (58.6 ± 19.4 years, 55.6% males). All were on prednison...

International consensus on mitotane treatment in pediatric patients with adrenal cortical tumors: Indications, therapy, and management of adverse effects
CONCLUSION: Delphi method enabled us to propose an expert consensus statement, which may guide clinicians, further adapted by local norms and the individual patient setting. In order to generate evidence, well-constructed studies should be the focus of future efforts.PMID:38552173 | DOI:10.1093/ejendo/lvae038 (Source: European Journal of Endocrinology)

Glucocorticoid prescribing in neurology
This article highlights the potential risks of corticosteroid prescribing and draws together up-to-date guidance with multispecialty input to clarify ways of reducing those risks. We discuss home blood glucose monitoring and consider a steroid safety checklist to promote safer steroid prescribing.PMID:38553045 | DOI:10.1136/pn-2023-003855 (Source: Practical Neurology)

Exploring sexual function in adrenal insufficiency: findings from the Dual RElease hydrocortisone versus conventionAl glucocorticoid replaceMent therapy in hypocortisolism (DREAM) trial
DiscussionSexual dysfunction is common in adrenal insufficiency patients and is likely explained by multiple factors. dual-release hydrocortisone treatment is not directly associated with sexual function improvement, but an indirect effect mediated by quality-of-life amelioration cannot be excluded. Is high-volume pilates training better to improve physical-functional performance in community-dwelling older adults? A randomized and controlled clinical trial
Aging promotes physiological changes in different body systems that negatively affect the functional independence of older adults (Addison et al., 2012; Sions et al., 2012). This results in less social participation and lower activity levels, contributing to the emergence of depressive symptoms, which further compromise the physical, social and mental well-being of this population (Vieira et al., 2014). The recommendation for older adults is that physical activity should consist of multi-component interventions, including muscle-strengthening, balance and flexibility activities as well as aerobic exercise (Nelson et al., 2...
