Molecular docking analysis of HSV-1 proteins models with synthetic and plant derived compounds
Bioinformation. 2023 Sep 30;19(9):981-986. doi: 10.6026/97320630019981. eCollection 2023.ABSTRACTThe atomic resolution model of US9, UL20, and gH protein of HSV is known. Hence, the ligand protein interaction of the US9, UL20, and gH protein models were carried out with synthetic drugs like acyclovir, bexarotene, vinorelbine, foscarnet, famciclovir, cidofovir and two plant derived natural drug acacetin and anthraquinone. Based on structure and docking study, it is predicted that protein US20 and gH binds with particular anti-HSV drug i.e. acyclovir, cidofovir, acacetin and famciclovir, acacetin respectively, while interact...

New-Onset of Herpes Simplex Keratitis After Blepharoplasty, Case Series and Review of the Literature
CONCLUSIONS: Risk factors for new-onset HSK after uncomplicated extraocular surgeries may be related to an immunocompromised state, postoperative administration of topical or periocular corticosteroids, or environmental factors such as psychological stress. Ophthalmologists, particularly plastic surgeons, should be vigilant for ocular discomfort following eyelid surgeries and consider the possibility of herpes infection. This report highlights the importance of recognizing and managing HSK in the context of extraocular plastic surgery.PMID:37922039 | DOI:10.1097/IOP.0000000000002453 (Source: Herpes)

Neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder with herpes simplex viral infection presenting with syndrome of inappropriate antidiuretic hormone: A case report
We report the case of a young female patient who presented with hyponatremia due to SIADH and was found to have bilateral hypothalamic lesions along with positive serum herpes simplex virus immunoglobulin M.PATIENT CONCERNS: An 18-year old female patient presented with fever and nausea that had persisted for 5 days. Three days after hospitalization, the patient complained of blurred vision, hiccups, and excessive daytime sleepiness.DIAGNOSIS: The patient hyponatremia was attributed to SIADH. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed bilateral lesions in the hypothalamus, and serum laboratory tests were positive for herpes simple...

Molecules, Vol. 28, Pages 7375: Large Subunit of the Human Herpes Simplex Virus Terminase as a Promising Target in Design of Anti-Herpesvirus Agents
Galina L. Levit Herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) is an extremely widespread pathogen characterized by recurrent infections. HSV-1 most commonly causes painful blisters or sores around the mouth or on the genitals, but it can also cause keratitis or, rarely, encephalitis. First-line and second-line antiviral drugs used to treat HSV infections, acyclovir and related compounds, as well as foscarnet and cidofovir, selectively inhibit herpesvirus DNA polymerase (DNA-pol). It has been previously found that (S)-4-[6-(purin-6-yl)aminohexanoyl]-7,8-difluoro-3,4-dihydro-3-methyl-2H-[1,4]benzoxazine (compound 1) exhibits sel...

Enhanced Anti-Herpetic Activity of Valacyclovir Loaded in Sulfobutyl-ether- β-cyclodextrin-decorated Chitosan Nanodroplets
In this study, VACV-loaded nanodroplet (ND) formulations, optimized for vaginal delivery, were designed. Cell-based assays were then carried out to evaluate the antiviral activity of VACV loaded in the ND system. The chitosan-shelled ND exhibited an average diameter of about 400 nm and a VACV encapsulation efficiency of approximately 91% and was characterized by a prolonged and sustained release of VACV. Moreover, a modification of chitosan shell with an anionic cyclodextrin, sulfobutyl ether β-cyclodextrin (SBEβCD), as a physical cross-linker, increased the stability and mucoadhesion capability of the nanosystem. Biolog...

Structured solubility behaviour in fed simulated intestinal fluids
This study has utilised nine bioequivalent simulated fed intestinal media recipes that cover over 90% of the compositional variability of sampled fed human intestinal fluid. The solubility of 24 drugs (Acidic; furosemide, ibuprofen, indomethacin, mefenamic acid, naproxen, phenytoin, piroxicam, valsartan, zafirlukast: Basic; aprepitant, atazanavir, bromocriptine, carvedilol, dipyridamole, posaconazole, tadalafil: Neutral; acyclovir, carbamazepine, felodipine, fenofibrate, griseofulvin, itraconazole, paracetamol, probucol) has been assessed to determine if structured solubility behaviour is present. The measured solubility b...
