Accepted to Yale Elective!! Need advice!!!
Could anyone offer their experiences at Yale as an elective student? I've been accepted for IM-Gastro and IM-Allergy/Immuno and a friend of mine I think has been accepted for General Surgery. If anyone could offer their experiences or advice as to whether it's worth taking, I'd appreciate it. I was hoping to get a placement at Cornell instead, based on some of the things I've read but they still havent answered. I've heard that Yale really works their elective students to the bone and... Best GI fellowships for residents interested in hepatology?
I am a resident interested in hepatology (pilot vs additional year after general GI training, unsure as of now). I was wondering, where are the best places in the country to do that? I have looked at what programs are transplant hepatology accredited, but I would love to get more insight! I know of a few great programs: UCSF, Michigan (Anna Lok), Northwestern (Levitsky, Rinella), Yale (w/ Garcia-Tsao), etc. What about UChicago, Mayo (do you get enough clinical experience?), Columbia, OHSU,... "Retaking" Organic Chemistry (Pleas read details)
Hey guys, so my situation is a weird one. I go to Yale-NUS and due to the structure of the liberal-arts curriculum, science-courses do not progress in the normal "BioChem 1" to "BioChem 2", etc. manner. Instead, science courses will last for just 1 semester & are often extremely rigorous, sometimes fitting in a year's worth of content into a sem. Since the school is so new, I'm taking an organic chemistry class that is essentially being offered for the first time (previous professor left who... What are the stats of those who get rads interviews at MGH, BWH, UCSF, Yale?
What step score should you have? How many publications in journals should you have? My friend scored a lot better than she thought on the step. When do these top programs want to see the step 2 score? If you could separate IR and DR I would really appreciate. Also if you have your own score, and where you matched, and where you interviewed, I would really appreciate. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Research Expectations of Clinical Faculty at “Big Name” Institutions
Hello everyone, Question that is not specialty specific and so I thought it would be best to post here instead of a physician/resident forum. Feel free to redirect to another locale if necessary. Obviously the “research track” academicians at places like Harvard, Yale, JHU, Duke, etc are focused on research bc they have funding, whether it be translational, clinical, or bench. What about the more clinician track physicians at these institutions? The bedside education type. Do they have... Vanderbilt Pre-med: A case study of the "selective undergrad" boost...or lack thereof
One of the common topics here on SDN is the role that your undergrad's reputation might play in medical admissions, particularly when gunning for admits at "top 20" medical schools. There's a pretty convincing case to be made that a bias exists - for example see Lucca's much more thorough post about the class compositions over recent years at Yale SOM (tl;dr:... Genuiseses's'?
My math/chemistry teacher from my old school is a fricking genius. He knew High School math to the point of mastery. He got his BS in Chemical Engineering from Stonybrook University with a high GPA. He also flew all the way to the UAE to take the old MCAT ( out of 45) just to beat his sister( whos doing her cancer fellowship at Yale) in a bet who got a 28. He got a 36! Studying only for 2 weeks! How the hell is that possible. Is it because chemical engineering integrates math, physics,... Genuiseses's'? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

WAMC/Building School List
Was hoping for some advice on building a school list -- would really like to stick to east coast and MD. Not trying to apply to a ton because I feel like I have a good enough shot at the ones on the list and I'd be perfectly happy at any of them current list: - Jefferson -Georgetown - UPenn - PennState - Tufts - UMD - Vanderbilt -Pittsburgh - Quinnipiac - Brown Probably huge reaches but... - Harvard/Yale Year: Senior Major: Physics, concentrating in chemistry @ Cornell Minor:... New York Schools Open to in the area requests?
Hello there, I recently was fortunate enough to receive an interview at Yale. Looking through flight prices, it seems like it will cost me 500-600$ for a flight, since the interview is in the middle of the week. Cornell states that they are receptive to in the area requests, and I'm thinking about sending them an email since Yale is about 1 hour and twenty minutes away. Flying to NYC first basically cuts my costs in half ($300ish) and saves me a trip to the east coast (I've from the west... New York Schools Open to in the area requests? Data: A Case Study in Bias for Prestigious Undergrads, Yale SOM
One immortal "feature" of SDN is handwringing about how much undergraduate prestige matters and in what situations. It is very hard to gain an objective foothold on this question and most of us have a sense that "yah, it matters -- but not that much, it won't save an otherwise poor application, and probably only matters at schools that value that certain je ne sais qois in their applicants (*cough* Harvard *cough*)." One of the reasons this is a difficult question to answer is... Data: A Case Study in Bias for Prestigious Undergrads, Yale SOM (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Med Schools Recruiting for LGBT students
For this thread, please stay on topic, and can ppl list schools that either recruit for LGBT (lesbian gay bisexusal transgender) med students, or include sexual orientation as an item in the list for diversity consideration? Yale and Northwestern do, but are there other more reachable schools that do? Thanks. (Source: Student Doctor Network)
