Application Tips with Apply Point: Review and Revise the Personal Statement Until it Feels like You
The final stage of the writing process will transform your initial draft into a polished personal statement. Warning: This stage can be time-consuming. Start early and plan to iterate. You will review, revise, and repeat… repeat… repeat. After you have made initial edits to your personal statement and cut down the length, read your statement aloud, noting where you stumble. Make revisions as necessary. Once it reads smoothly, set it down and walk away for at least 24 hours. Then re-read... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

WARNING - do not go to Albert Einstein GPR in Philly
This program used to be well known for cool trauma calls, great attendings, and fun procedures (implants, all on x’s, endos, etc) but it has declined to the point of no return. To summarize best, Einstein GPR is a toxic workplace with questionable leadership. The decline began when the program was taken over by the new program director in Jan of 2022. The current program director is a large part of the unpleasant experience had by the residents. He is incredibly rude, overwhelmingly... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Your administrators are not looking out for you.
Just wanted to post this thread for therapy / a warning. I can't talk too much about this case as the hospital I was working at is in arbitration for this case. But here's the gist: A patient I consulted on had an elective (though necessary) surgery done, and he subsequently became severely hypotensive (and tachycardic). I received a call asking me to go to bedside, and being a reasonable human and physician I am, I did. Given the patient's condition, I strongly advocated for the surgeon... My Vulnerable and Personal Caribbean Medical School Journey (Part 1)
This is for my Pre-Meds and Non-Traditional students considering a Caribbean medical school. Fair warning, this is going to be a long post, but it will be my personal unbiased journey. I have no secret agenda; I am not trying to convince you to do one thing or another. I will be keeping it 100% real. This is NOT going to be a post completely bashing Caribbean schools like I’ve seen a few other toxic posts/comments. But this also won’t be sugar coated, “everything is just fine” post either... Versed and fentanyl for sedation
What are y'all's thoughts on the common practice and combination of versed and fentanyl for procedural sedation and Mac? This practice is incredibly pervasive in anesthesia. In my reading and understanding it seems like versed alone would be the much better agent as combining the two makes a patient much more prone to respiratory depression per benzodiazepine warnings. Yet we routinely give both. Is there any utility to fentanyl for minimal stimulation procedures aka less painful? I'm a... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Is this an IA?
I was an RA responding to a candle complaint at 3 am. I temporary muted the smoke detector, aired out the room, then unmuted. The students who had the candle were in trouble, so I went to an administrative hearing as the RA. I was given a verbal warning for touching a smoke detector. Is this an IA? If it is, which schools automatically reject candidates with IAs, so I know where not to apply. My prehealth advisor says it is but the conduct officer said it isn’t. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

COCA Accreditation standards?
Is COCA trying to tighten up their accreditation standards? or is it just a fluke that all these schools are getting Accreditation with heightened monitoring? This used to be a very rare thing for any school to receive accreditation warnings, but COCA is handing them out like candy nowadays. Up to 9 DO schools now have heightened monitoring. “WashU almost a guaranteed interview with your stats”?
I’ve noticed in WAMC threads Faha will typically tell high stat applicants that WashU is “almost a guaranteed interview”. I was wondering: A: What data is this based on, and what makes WashU unique in this regard and B: If I don’t have an II from WashU despite good stats is this a warning sign that there might be a red flag in my app?
