How to get a 25AA on the DAT
Hey guys, I took the DAT in June of last year and did very well on it. Interviews are winding down for me so I thought I should share my knowledge of the DAT with you guys. Warning: this post is really long! My DAT study guide Here is a comprehensive guide on how I studied for the DAT. I'm no science genius, but I did very well on the test (25AA, 24TS, 21 PAT) and my test score went a long way in scoring me interviews (I had 12 total). Hard work and discipline are the keys to... Embarrassing question
I'm a pre-pharmacy student and I get cold sores 1-2 a year. Are there any health policies that would restrict where I work in the future? Also, if I were working in retail, would I be allowed to work if I had a blister? It's very embarrassing to even ask this question, but it would be worse if I waited until after school to find out. I do manage it with valacyclovir and Abreva, but sometimes there is no warning until the blister appears. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

LOI for a Waitlist spot. Reader please?
I read an old thread about a user on here that just said **** it on his/her one waitlist spot and sent in some crazy soul-searching LOI's that were 2/3 pages long over the course of a couple months and eventually was accepted. So I'm at that point where I'm just saying **** it for my 1 waitlist spot and I wrote another letter explaining why I continue to persevere for this goal and whateva. Would anyone be willing to read it and tell me how it is? Or if it's a bit too much? Warning: It's a... LOI for a Waitlist spot. Reader please? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

When your school releases your VSAS application late...
Sad warning to my fellow M3s applying for aways: At my med school, we have to email our registrar's office every time we submit a VSAS application to ask them to release it. I applied for one of rotations the minute that VSAS opened and listed two dates for that elective -- emailed my school to ask them to release it, and received an email confirmation from them and VSAS. Forgot about it, and 2 weeks later, I happened to go check VSAS tracking and realized that they only released 1 of the... When your school releases your VSAS application late... Warning For Those Re-Applying This Cycle re: AACOMAS
I want to give a heads up to those who are re-applying to DO this cycle. AACOMAS has two options to either carry over your old application or start a completely new one. At first having it carry over sounds like the best idea and easier thing to do. But be careful, carrying over your application from last year has a caveat with it. IF you decided to retake some courses between the time your 2015-2016 application was verified, you will NOT be able to go back to previously verified... Stimulants
Any major cardiac contraindications you see with stims? I see patients with hocm, rbbb, MVP etc who would benefit from stims but I am concerned given the cardiac warning with stims. What do you think is the best way to help patients? I get thorough cardiac family history as well. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Problems applying to low&mid-range schools with high scores?
Hello! I've seen some warnings about students with top scores not getting interviews at low-mid tier schools because those schools think they won't attend. I'm more worried about affordability right now than I am about name recognition when it comes to med schools, so I wasn't planning on applying to that many top schools. I was considering doing ED at my state school (although the I've heard that's not a great idea). My stats are good (3.95 GPA and 521 MCAT - 127, 132, 130, 132), but my ECs... Warnings about new dentists practicing unethical dentistry are becoming more common
Found this thread while scanning reddit, and wanted to share it with you all: https://www.reddit.com/r/personalfi...get_a_second_opinion_especially_if_its_a_new/ Things that stood out to me: -The warning is stronger "especially if it's a new doctor or dentist" -This new dentist was in CA....aka saturation land. -The dentist tried to push the patient into signing the treatment plan and committing to an expensive course of treatment IMMEDIATELY upon diagnosis.... Massachusetts law on benzodiazepine prescribing to be heard in committee in April
Here is the proposed law: https://malegislature.gov/Bills/189/House/H4062 It will require patient's written informed consent. The prescription paper itself will be brightly colored with warnings about dependency, and doctors will not be allowed to discontinue patients in ways other than described by the legislature's recommendations on tapering (most likely will be something adopted along the lines of the BNF). This is the first legislation I have come across in the US that... Massachusetts law on benzodiazepine prescribing to be heard in committee in April (Source: Student Doctor Network)
