HCA-UH Kingwood Internal Medicine accreditation warning
Recently, I noticed a change in accreditation status for the IM program at the HCA-University of Houston affiliated Kingwood location. It went from initial accreditation to initial accreditation with a warning. I am applying through ERAS this cycle and was bummed to see this change. I know the warning could signify a big problem or a simple change that can be made within the allotted time period. Does anyone have any clue what caused the warning at this program or how we could... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Warning of AMCs financial collapse? Better watch your back.
Seeing multiple threads here with information about financial troubles of AMCs. One physician opposed his hospital being sold to an even shadier entity and told his colleagues about looming financial insolvency. What happened next seems unbelievable even as a movie involving planted weapons, drugs, car sabotage, and other intimidation along with buying off police and a judge. Glad the guy finally won his lawsuit but 5.7 million seems like too small of a judgement... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Institutional Action Question
Hi, long time lurker here. I was reading through the 2023 AMCAS applicant guide and saw under institutional action that examples of institutional actions include academic standings warning. I’m really concerned because I received an official warning by my school like 4 years ago because I had received a D. I am currently trying to get a hold of my school to see what it necessarily means. Thankfully, it helped me receive the clarity that I really needed to get my act together to better... Warning: Pay for Board Certification now 8/24/2022
I just got an e-mail yesterday to pay for my board certification extension with a deadline of only a few days to pay. I did the option of reading journal articles and answering questions in a test based format instead of doing the full-length exam. For over a year I've asked ABPN, because I completed my requirements, what was the next step. There was a process in place where ABPN would've then processed my results, gave me a fee to pay and then viola it's done. The problem was due to... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Physical Therapy 2nd semester uncertainty
I finished my 2nd semester this week and everything that could go wrong, went wrong. My lowest grade going into finals was a B and the rest were around A- territory. Now that the semester is over I have a C+ as my lowest grade and my cumulative GPA is at 2.92 I'm already on academic warning because of the B- I received in anatomy over the summer. And it was our lone course. The rules state you go on probation if you get a C+/C, or your cumulative GPA isn't above 3.0. But nothing is... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Is all well with PhyMed?
Friend of mine, relatively inexperienced, is thinking of taking a job with PhyMed, despite my warnings about national groups. I did a websearch and found this article PhyMed Management LLC: Debt Placed On Non Accrual On April 26, 2022 Ares Capital (ARCC) – one of two BDC lenders to PhyMed Management, LLC – an anesthesiology company – reported its IQ 2022 results, which included a sharp write-d… bdccreditreporter.com which seems to indicate financial difficulties the group is experiencing...

Worst Jobs-Biggest Rip Offs
We tend to mention good jobs-but with inflation, housing, interest rates, debt-what are the biggest rip off/scheme jobs out there? I know USAP Austin/Central was mentioned as having a very low salary, long partnership, and stock purchase in a city with a crazy high cost of living. I saw NAPA in Virginia was bad for similar reasons Who else? Where should people see warning signs? Help folks looking for jobs (Source: Student Doctor Network)

If you are having second thoughts on optometry school, I'm here to tell you to RUN
Hi everyone, I wanted to write this post to share my experiences and opinions on being an optometrist. I graduated a few years back and have had the opportunity to work private and corporate and also own my own business. I wanted this to serve as a warning to y'all... Optometry is not it. I repeat, optometry is NOT it. I came into the profession very optimistic and excited since it's been a lifelong dream of mine to be an optometrist. Handwriting notes in med school
Incoming MS1 here. I am a big fan of handwritten notes. I wrote all my notes with pencil and paper throughout high school and college. Everyone is warning me that med school is different and encouraging me to purchase an iPad or tablet for notes instead. However, not only do I not want to invest in an iPad write now, but I honestly just love handwriting my notes, and I don't want to stop! How many of you handwrite vs use an iPad/tablet? Do you agree with what others have been saying (that... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Alcohol in UDS
If someone is on, let’s say perc 5 tid, and there is occasional ethyl on UDS around 10k or less (not every UDS) do you take away meds? Or just document warning to not combine with opioids? I have a few people that I have written 2-3 times “patient warned to not consume alcohol within 6 hours of taking opioid”, Or something like that. Is this enough? Or am I being too loosey goosey? Philippine Medical Schools
Just a heads up or warning for FilAms/Foreigners interested in attending a medical school in the Philippines. Based on experience, there is a big cultural adjustment one has to be aware of. Local students tend to be clannish and very immature. Contrary to beliefs you will find that local students are not welcoming to "foreigners". This is especially true during clinicals. During clinicals, students are grouped into subgroups where they are encouraged to help one another. Be aware that locals... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)
