Chronic Pancreatitis-Associated Metabolic Bone Diseases: Epidemiology, Mechanisms, and Clinical Advances
Am J Physiol Endocrinol Metab. 2024 Apr 24. doi: 10.1152/ajpendo.00113.2024. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTChronic pancreatitis (CP) is a progressive inflammatory disease with an increasing global prevalence. In recent years, a strong association between CP and metabolic bone diseases (MBDs), especially osteoporosis, has been identified, attracting significant attentions in the research field. Epidemiological data suggest a rising trend in the incidence of MBDs among CP patients. Notably, recent studies have highlighted a profound interplay between CP and altered nutritional and immune profiles, offering insights into its ...

Inappropriate laboratory test utilization in outpatient tertiary care: Implications for value-based healthcare
CONCLUSION: The study identified significantly high rates of inadequate repetitions of frequently requested laboratory tests. Urgent action is therefore crucial to overcoming such an issue.PMID:38657991 | DOI:10.15537/smj.2024.45.4.20230512 (Source: Saudi Medical Journal)

The role of vitamin D in outcomes of critical care in COVID-19 patients: Evidence from an umbrella meta-analysis of interventional and observational studies
CONCLUSION: Overall, vitamin D status is a critical factor influencing the mortality rate, disease severity, admission to ICU and being detached from mechanical ventilation. It is vital to monitor the vitamin D status in all patients with critical conditions including COVID patients.PMID:38654693 | DOI:10.1017/S1368980024000934 (Source: Public Health Nutrition)

Evaluation of anti-seizure medications and their serum concentration with regard to cardiovascular risk parameters: A cross-sectional study
CONCLUSION: In our study, the majority of patients were children and adolescents. Regular monitoring of drug serum concentrations and metabolic parameters may be useful to select the safest drug in terms of cardiovascular disease risk. Randomized controlled trials on the long-term effects of anti-seizure treatment are needed.PMID:38657483 | DOI:10.1016/j.yebeh.2024.109802 (Source: Epilepsy and Behaviour)
